AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/10 Report--
"Geely New Energy will gather to build the Galaxy brand and formally merge geometry into the Galaxy brand, and 'GEOME' will become the Galaxy's smart boutique car series," Geely Automotive Group CEO Gan Jiayue said at the launch event of Geely Star on October 9. In the future, Galaxy will focus on the mainstream new energy market, covering A0 to C-level products, covering cars, SUV, MPV and other new energy models.
Geometry is another attempt of Geely's transformation to new energy. As early as 2015, Geely put forward the "Blue Geely Plan" and took the lead in initiating the transformation to new energy. In 2018, Li Shufu proposed that "more than 90% of Geely cars will be new energy vehicles by 2020", but so far this goal has not been achieved. Data show that Geely sold a total of 955700 vehicles in the first half of 2024, an increase of 41% over the same period last year, of which 320200 were pure electric and plug-in hybrid, accounting for 33.5% of sales.
In many brands, whether in terms of popularity or market positioning, geometry does not look eye-catching. In April 2019, Geometry Automobile was launched in Singapore as a high-end pure electric brand of Geely Automobile Group, in parallel with Geely and Lectra. At the press conference, Geometry A, the first model of Geometry, was announced to be on the market, with a subsidized price of 15-190000 yuan. However, the high-end brand positioning does not seem to be recognized by consumers, while Geometry, as a new brand, lacks its own volume, which makes it not going smoothly after its launch. Historically, geometric cars have launched geometric EX3 with a starting price of 50, 000 yuan, geometric E with 80, 000 yuan, and geometric G6 / geometric M6 with 150000 yuan. Generally speaking, the performance of these models is OK, but it does not have much to do with the high end. By April 2023, Geometry was incorporated into the Geely brand, and its models were simultaneously renamed "Geely Geometry C", "Geely Geometry E", "Geely Geometry M6" and "Geely Geometry G6". In September of the same year, Zhejiang Geometry Automobile sales Co., Ltd. applied for cancellation of registration.
By contrast, the Geely Galaxy series performed very well.
In February 2023, Geely launched a new mid-and high-end new energy series "Geely Galaxy". It plans to launch seven new models within two years, including four intelligent electric hybrid L series (L5, L6, L7, L9). Three Galaxy intelligent pure electric E series (E6, E7, E8), covering A0 to B grade hybrid products. In May 2023, Geely Galaxy L7 was officially listed with a price range of 13.87-173700 yuan. As the first model of Geely's new mid-and high-end new energy series, the Galaxy L7 is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system composed of a 1.5T engine and a 3-gear DHT gearbox, with a comprehensive range of 1370km under CLTC operating conditions, and competitors lock in models such as the BYD Song PLUS DM-i. So far, Geely Galaxy has launched four models: E5, E8, L6 and L7.
It is understood that Geely's sales target is 2 million vehicles in 2024, with cumulative sales of 1.2877 million vehicles in the first eight months, an increase of 34% over the same period last year, of which Geely Galaxy series sales were 124600, up 304% from the same period last year. According to retail data, the highest-selling model in the first eight months was the Galaxy L7, with 48790 vehicles, followed by the Galaxy L6 with 41756 vehicles, and the Galaxy E5 sold more than 10,000 cars in its first month on the market.
