AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/12 Report--
On Oct. 11, local time, the three major indexes of US stocks continued to rise slightly in recent days. The Dow and S & P 500 continued to reach record highs. Large technology stocks rose and fell differently. Tesla fell more than 8%, and the total market capitalization lost nearly $67 billion in a single day, equivalent to more than 470 billion yuan.
On the same day, when Tesla held a "WE ROBOT" press conference, Tesla CEO Elon Musk personally came to the event in a Robotaxi called Cybercab and released a driverless taxi named CyberCab, a driverless Model Y and a driverless van.
In Musk's words, "this is going to be a day in history." Musk mentioned that Tesla plans to start production of the Cybercab in 2026 and produce the car at a very high volume in 2027. The Cybercab will sell for less than $30, 000 (about 200000 yuan), and Tesla is expected to launch an unregulated FSD in Texas and California next year and roll out the Cybercab on a large scale by 2026 or 2027. In the future, Tesla will also launch the second generation Cybercab.
First of all, let's take a look at Tesla's driverless car Cybercab. From the design point of view, the Cybercab front is similar to Cybertruck and the rear is similar to Model Y, the overall style is angular, and the body is covered with a stainless steel shell, which looks full of science fiction, creating a strong future impact. The design of the headlights is also very special, using the projection technology, which can project a large area of light on the ground in the process of driving, and can follow when turning a corner. When you encounter pedestrians crossing the road, you can also interact with people through changes in light.
By contrast, Cybercab's cockpit design is more cognitive, with no steering wheel, no throttle and brake pedals, and all the information is concentrated on the central control screen. However, Tesla thoughtfully equipped the car with seat belts in order to avoid colliding with other road participants and causing injury to drivers. The Cybercab is a 2-seater model, but this does not mean that the space is small. From the scene picture, the crew cabin has enough head and leg space, and there is no need to worry about the storage space. The trunk adopts the hatchback design idea, and the large trunk can meet most storage scenes. In addition, the car also uses the scissors door to open the door, which makes it easier for passengers to get in and out of the car. In terms of price, Musk repeated his previous statement that it could sell for as little as $30,000, but the car will also go into production in 2026 or 2027. In addition, Musk also revealed that unsupervised autopilot on Model Y and Model 3 will also be launched in Texas and California next year, and Tesla's real autopilot can make a breakthrough next year.
It is understood that Tesla's plan to build Robotaxi can be traced back to 2016. Musk first put forward this idea in the second chapter of "Grand Plan" written for Tesla. However, Tesla's process of building Robotaxi has not been plain sailing. Musk originally planned to launch Robotaxi services in some parts of the United States in 2020, but this failed to achieve, mainly because the technology is not yet mature, regulation has not been passed, and the reliability and security of Tesla's FSD system have not yet reached the expected standards.
In March this year, Tesla announced in his 2024.3.10 update that the FSD Beta test plan had officially ended and the original "FSD Beta" had been renamed "FSD (Supervised)". The launch of the FSD V12 version received a positive response from the market, and early test users generally praised the new version as "more like a human driving a car." In April, Musk shocked the market when he announced on social media that the Robotaxi would be launched on Aug. 8, but then postponed it to Oct. 10 because he asked the team to change the front design of the Robotaxi and Tesla needed more time to prepare for some other content.
On the day after Tesla released Cybercab, Tesla's share price fell sharply, indicating that the capital market does not recognize Tesla's Cybercab, or Tesla's press conference. First, Wall Street's long-awaited low-cost model, the Model 2, also failed to appear, disappointing investors at the launch and driving down the company's share price. Secondly, Cybercab will not be mass produced until 2026, which can not solve the difficulties encountered in Tesla's current operation. at present, Tesla's main selling model is facing market challenges and its performance falls short of expectations.
In fact, the current Tesla is also very difficult, although Model 3 and Model Y are still very popular, but it is far less than in the past. Under the background of China's new energy brands accelerating the volume, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are under pressure, so the market expects Tesla to launch a $25000 new entry electric car. If Tesla launches this model, it will subvert the market. But the hidden worry is that it may affect the market size of Model 3 and Model Y, and then have an impact on Tesla's profits. At present, it is not clear when Tesla will launch a $25000 electric car, but according to the current development of the electric car market, the longer it takes, the competitiveness of the model will decline sharply.
