The 90th Paris International Motor Show will be held at the Paris Versailles Exhibition Center from October 14 to 20.

There is no doubt about the influence of Paris Motor Show in the industry. Together with the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Geneva Motor Show, the North American Motor Show and the Tokyo Motor Show, it is one of the weather vane of the auto industry. Each auto show attracts a large number of well-known auto manufacturers. According to the data, the Paris Motor Show is the first auto show in the world, which originated from the International Automobile Salon in 1898, held every year from 1898 to 1976, and every two years since then. The last Paris Motor Show, held in October 2022, did not receive much attention because it was still in the stage of an outbreak. After two years, the auto industry has also undergone earth-shaking changes, electric cars will be the focus of this Paris auto show.

Compared with the previous years, the number of car companies participating in this exhibition has increased, but with the change of the auto market pattern, the exhibitors have also changed, showing a lot of new faces. In the past, the Paris Auto Show was almost an one-man show for multinational car companies such as Germany, Japan and the United States, but with the explosion of new energy vehicles, Chinese car companies with new energy models have also injected new blood into the western world.

According to the official website of the Paris Auto Show, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault and other local French car companies have not been absent from the Paris Auto Show. It has also attracted multinational car companies such as Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, BMW, Hyundai and Kia to participate in the exhibition, as well as BYD, Guangzhou Automotive, Red Flag, Xiaopeng, Zero run, Skyworth, QQ and other multinational car companies in the Chinese brand camp. However, Japanese manufacturers such as Nissan, Toyota and Honda are collectively absent, and Mercedes-Benz, one of the mainstream luxury brands, did not participate in the exhibition. In terms of quantity, the number of Chinese brands participating in the exhibition is the largest, exceeding the number of Chinese brands participating in the 2023 Munich Motor Show. These brands have brought a lot of heavyweight new cars and are likely to become the biggest attraction of this Paris Auto Show.

For example, zero-running cars (operated under the name "Leapmotor International" outside China) will officially start selling two models in Europe at the auto show, the T03 small SUV and the C10 medium-sized SUV. At the same time, the new zero-running car, the B10 compact SUV, will also be unveiled at the auto show around the world. AITO's question M9 will be released for the first time in the European market and will be named AITO 9.

Although local consumers in Europe still need to improve their awareness of Chinese brands, participating in the auto show is undoubtedly an important window to show Chinese brands to the European market, especially for the world-famous Paris auto show. Of course, it is not easy for Chinese brands to expand in the European market.

Although Chinese cars still have a low market share in Europe, the European Union has regarded Chinese electric cars, which are making rapid progress, as a threat. On October 4th the European Union voted on whether to impose a five-year countervailing duty on Chinese electric vehicles. The European Commission's proposal to impose tariffs on Chinese imports of pure electric vehicles has won the necessary support of EU member states, according to a statement issued by the European Commission (hereinafter referred to as "the European Commission"). Decided to impose tariffs of up to 45% on electric vehicles imported from China. In terms of specific tax rates, BYD, Geely and SAIC levied countervailing duties of 17%, 18.8% and 35.3% respectively, while other electric car manufacturers that participated in the survey but were not separately sampled increased by 20.7%. Other Chinese car companies that do not cooperate with the EU investigation will be subject to 35.3% countervailing duty. It should be noted that this is a maximum tariff of 35.3% in addition to the original 10% tariff.

Even so, Chinese car companies will regard going out to sea as one of the key strategies, and if they want to have a place in Europe, they must face the crisis, and more and more Chinese manufacturers are looking to build factories in Europe to reduce the impact of tariff increases. For now, imposing tariffs will make it more difficult for Chinese car companies to pry into the European market in a short period of time, and will not stop Chinese car companies from entering Europe. On the contrary, it will affect local car companies, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volkswagen have publicly opposed this unfair move.

Since the 2023 Munich Auto Show, the impact and threat of Chinese auto brands to overseas auto companies has also been reflected incisively and vividly. I believe that other multinational auto companies will feel the same way at this Paris Auto Show. A more profound interpretation of the alarm for overseas auto executives, but also let the world see more clearly: Chinese electric cars are unstoppable and are leading the future development trend of cars.
