MINI China officially announced that starting from October 18, the new electric MINI COOPER will start at 148800 yuan, 41000 yuan lower than the original starting price of 189800 yuan, and the new electric MINI ACEMAN will start at 163900 yuan, 46000 yuan lower than the original starting price of 209900 yuan. At the same time, MINI China will insure prices in the form of cash for veteran owners who have bought the two pure electric models.

Subdivided into major versions of the model, the official website shows that MINI COOPER cancelled the big player entry model. After the adjustment, the COOPER E classic model sold 148800 yuan, down 61000 yuan from the original 209800 yuan; COOPER SE artist model sold 182800 yuan, 57000 yuan lower than the original 239800 yuan. COOPER SE racing driver models sell for 194800 yuan, a reduction of 65000 yuan compared with the original 259800 yuan.

MINI ACEMAN also canceled the entry-level models for big players. After the adjustment, ACEMAN E classic models sold 163900 yuan, 66000 yuan lower than the original 229900 yuan; ACEMAN SE artist models sold 197900 yuan, down 62000 yuan compared to the original 259900 yuan; ACEMAN SE racing driver models sold 209,900 yuan, 70 million yuan lower than the original 279,900 yuan.

It is understood that the domestic model of MINI is produced by Light Beam Automobile Co., Ltd. In December 2019, Great Wall Motor and BMW Group jointly established Beam Automobile Co., Ltd. at the proportion of 50:50, in which BMW (Netherlands) holding company is the actual controller. In December 2023, Beamlight Automobile was qualified for independent production. At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, the new pure electric MINI COOPER and the new pure electric MINI ACEMAN were officially unveiled.

Among them, the MINI COOPER is the first production car under the Light Motors. On July 6 this year, it launched a total of five models with a price range of 18.98-266800 yuan. The car is 3858/1756/1458mm in length, width and height, wheelbase 2526mm, and positioning small pure electric SUV. In terms of power, the entry-level model is equipped with 135kW motors, matched with 40.7kWh 's battery pack, while the higher-end model is equipped with 160kW motor and matched with 54.2kWh battery pack, with a maximum range of 402km under WLTP conditions.

The MINI ACEMAN is the second domestic electric vehicle under the Light Motors. It launched four models with a price range of 20.99-279900 yuan on August 27th. The car is 4076/1754/1515mm in length, width and height, 2606mm in wheelbase, and positioning pure electric small SUV, filling the gap between MINI five-door version and COUNTRYMAN. In terms of power, there are two power versions: the MINI Aceman with a maximum power of 184hp with a 40 kWh battery pack with a range of about 300km, and the MINI Aceman S with a maximum power of 218hp with a 54.2kwh battery pack with a range of about 400km.

It is worth mentioning that the recall was launched last month shortly after the launch of the two cars. On September 11, Beamlight Motor Co., Ltd. announced a recall of 5552 domestic MINI COOPER cars and 2682 domestic MINI ACEMAN vehicles manufactured from June 1, 2024 to August 30, 2024. The reason for the recall is that due to manufacturing reasons, the electrical signal of the motor position sensor of the integrated brake booster (DSCi) is disturbed, which may cause the DSCi to be unable to provide auxiliary braking, which affects the function of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and dynamic stability control system (DSC).

From the adjusted price point of view, whether it is the new electric MINI COOPER or the new electric MINI ACEMAN, the decline of the two models is still relatively large. As for the reasons for the price reduction, the official did not give an explanation, but industry insiders believe that MINI China's adjustment to the prices of the two models may be related to the fierce competition in the current market and the extreme introversion of the price war.

With the innovation of the car market, sales of the MINI brand in China have also declined in recent years. Sales of the MINI brand in China fell from 34100 in 2019 to 28700 in 2022 and again to 18200 in 2023, according to the data. In today's increasingly hot electric vehicle market, pure electric MINI domestic has obviously become a key part of BMW's pure electric strategy. As early as the beginning of the Great Wall BMW alliance, BMW said that the Chinese market has become the world's largest electric vehicle market, and the realization of local production of MINI electric models is a key factor in the sustainable development of the MINI brand. Unfortunately, the domestic process of MINI is very slow. Lead to pure electric MINI domestic products on the market did not seize too many opportunities, after all, belated MINI COOPER and MINI ACEMAN now have to face a lot of competitors, MINI pure electricity to get a piece of the pie is not easy. For the current MINI brand, if it wants to maintain its pioneering position in the industry, it still has a long way to go to lay down a territory in the highly competitive Chinese electric market.
