The 22nd Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition 2024 (hereinafter referred to as "Guangzhou Auto Show 2024") officially opened on November 15. The so-called Class An auto show is not only a grand event of the automobile industry, but also an important window to understand the industry trends, technological innovation and brand development. Therefore, all the major auto companies will choose to unveil new cars and release new technologies at the auto show. As the last Class An auto show in 2024, carrying the development plans of major car brands next year, many new car brands and blockbuster models have chosen to be released and listed at the auto show. Like other Class An auto shows in 2024, Guangzhou Auto Show will be a "carnival" for new energy vehicles.
According to the exhibition booth map released by the organizing committee, the exhibition area of this auto show will reach 220000 square meters, covering the indoor exhibition halls in areas An and D of the Canton Fair Hall, the outdoor exhibition area of the North and South Plaza and the Canton Fair Hall. As the last stage to hit sales in 2024, many brands did everything they could. Lei Jun, Yu Chengdong and other bigwigs made their debut, and BYD took over the entire venue. However, in the midst of the boom, many car brands are absent from this year-end event.
Compared with the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show, a total of 12 car companies or brands are absent in this Guangzhou Auto Show, including Jetta, Chevrolet, Jaguar Land Rover, Jetstar, Subaru, Jennifer Seth, Gaohe, Hechuang, Qichen, CSL, Rolls-Royce, Universiade New Energy, Blue Electric cars and other 13 brands, among which some brands are unable to participate in the exhibition based on their own strategies and considerations.
Take Gaohe Automobile as an example, it was once one of the hot new power brands in China. The price range of the first mass-produced car Gaohe HiPHi X is 57 to 800000 yuan. The high price and cool design once became the object of hot discussion in the market, and then launched the second model, HiPhi Z, although the price was slightly reduced, but still more than 500000 yuan. By 2023, Gaohe car sales have been unable to break through, launching the third model HiPhi Y, the price is 33.90-449000 yuan, but in the face of fierce competition in the electric car market, HiPhi Y did not bring a highlight moment for Gaohe, but Gaohe shut down production. After the Spring Festival of the year of the Dragon, Gaohe announced that it had stopped production and actively saved itself.At present, Gaohe's parent company, Chinese Express, has applied to the court for restructuring, which means that it may gain a new life through restructuring, but it also faces severe challenges. at present, Gaohe still shows no sign of survival.
Yuanghang Automobile, a high-end new energy brand of Dayun Group, was officially launched at the 2022 Chengdu Auto Show. The brand launched four new cars in one breath, namely, Yuanghang Y6, Yuanghang Y7, Yuanhang H8 and Yuanhang H9, among which the Yuanhang Y series is the pure electric sedan and the Yuanhang H series is the pure electric SUV. A few days ago, it was revealed that Yuanghang Motor was in deep operational difficulties, facing operational crises such as staff loss, delayed payment of wages, outage of sales stores and so on. In this regard, long Airlines responded: "after all, the company relies on Dayun Group and will not fail easily. At present, the company is undergoing strategic adjustment and is in a state of restructuring. After a period of time, the adjustment will return to normal."
In addition, Jetta, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Land Rover, Polar, Subaru, Genisse and other brands are also absent. Among them, Jetta is a subsidiary of FAW-Volkswagen, and its positioning is similar to the Skoda brand of SAIC-Volkswagen. At present, only Jetta VS5, Jetta VA3 and Jetta VS7 are on sale. The Jetta brand sold 96200 vehicles in the previous 10 months, and the overall performance is still OK. On the eve of the auto show, Jetta also unveiled its new compact car, the Jetta VA7, which can be seen as a youthful version of Volkswagen, built on the Volkswagen MQB platform and powered by a 1.4T engine. As for Subaru and Genisse, both are imported brands and their overall market share is small, while Chevrolet suffered a major development crisis within a year, with the highest-selling model being the lowest-priced Cruze, and the overall performance of other models was dismal. Jaguar and Land Rover are absent, understandably and unexpectedly, for the first time in recent years.
It is worth mentioning that "Automotive Industry concern" found that the Great Wall booth is also very special, although the exhibitors show that Harvard, Euler, tanks and other brands all participate in the exhibition, but on Media Day, all the cars on the Great Wall booth are Wei brand Lanshan smart driving version, there are no other models, this layout is still very unexpected, and I do not know whether this will still be the case in the following public day.
In sharp contrast, many brands have returned to the auto show, including Dongfeng Infiniti, FAW Pentium, Dongfeng Fashion, Baojun, Yizhen, 212 off-road vehicles, Xiaomi, Jishi, Ledao, Zunjie, a total of 10 brands. Among them, Infiniti, FAW Pentium, Dongfeng Fashion and Baojun were only absent last year and participated in the exhibition again this year. Of course, these brands do not have much market voice. Yizhen, 212 off-road vehicles, Xiaomi, Jishi and Ledao participated in the Guangzhou Auto Show for the first time as new brands. In addition, Zunjie is also a brand that can not be ignored, it is launched by Jianghuai Automobile and Huawei and belongs to Hongmeng Zhihang.
Take Dongfeng Infiniti as an example, although it returned to the auto show, it actually did not have much sense of existence, showing only QX60 and QX50 models, Q50L has stopped production and sale, the whole booth does not have too many new things, so that the whole exhibition area is very deserted.
Chinese new energy car manufacturers continue to have a hot market, whether it is the newly listed Xiaomi car, or the newly released Ledao, Guangzhou Auto Show has become an important occasion for them to "show off their muscles", especially Xiaomi car. Its first model, Xiaomi SU7, was launched on March 28th. With its low market price and cool appearance, it instantly detonated the new energy market, with sales exceeding 10,000 in June and 20,000 in October. The goal is to deliver 100000 vehicles this year and challenge 120000 vehicles. According to the current market performance, it will not be a problem to deliver more than 20, 000 vehicles next.
Generally speaking, the display function of the auto show is greater than the sales function, but in the increasingly fierce market competition, sales volume may be a more real thing, which may be one of the reasons why many manufacturers prefer the Chengdu auto show, which has a stronger sales flavor. At the same time, compared with the Chengdu Auto Show, which has more car-selling attributes, and the Beijing / Shanghai Auto Show, which is oriented to the industry's new technology and new product exhibitions, the positioning of the Guangzhou Auto Show is not clear, which makes some brands have their own consideration of not participating in the exhibition. Of course, for most enterprises, the reason behind the absence of large auto shows is often their poor living conditions, while for enterprises with a strong vision for development, auto show is a place where they can not be ignored.
