The announcement shows that Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the "Regulations on the Management of Defective Automobile Product Recall" and the "Implementation Measures for the Management of Defective Automobile Product Recall." It has been decided to recall from now on some 2017-2019 imported Beetle series vehicles produced between July 6, 2016 and September 15, 2018, totaling 16202 vehicles.

The reason for the recall is that the driver's frontal airbags of the vehicles within the scope of this recall are equipped with desiccant ammonium nitrate gas generators produced by Takata Company. After the vehicle has been used for a long time, if the driver's frontal airbag is triggered to deploy in a collision accident, the inflator may be abnormally damaged, causing debris to fly out and injuring people in the vehicle, posing a safety hazard. In response to the above defects, Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. will entrust authorized dealers to replace the improved driver's frontal airbags for vehicles within the recalled scope for free to eliminate safety hazards.
