AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/24 Report--
After Chinese carmaker Chery signed a joint venture with Spanish car company Ebro-EV MOTORS, the joint venture finally made new progress. Chery Holdings officially announced that the S700 SUV model of the EBRO brand, the first product of the joint venture factory between Chery and EV MOTORS of Spain, was officially launched on November 23rd local time.
It is understood that the EBRO brand S700 SUV models in China correspond to 2025 Ruihu 7 PLUS models, positioning compact SUV, the domestic price is 9.99-129900 yuan. In terms of appearance, the overall shape of the EBRO S700 is not much different from that of the 2025 Ruihu 7 PLUS, but it is optimized in detail. Specifically, the front face of the new car uses a dot matrix medium net design, but the interior of the grille is changed to the letter "EBRO" to indicate the identity of the vehicle. On the side of the body, the new car adopts two-color body layout, and the roof and side columns are fumigated with petal-type two-color rims. In the rear part, the new car adopts through-type taillight design, the middle of the taillight is inlaid with the letter "EBRO", and the rear door has a "S700" nameplate in the lower left corner, which further enhances the identity of the new car. In terms of exhaust, the new car adopts hidden exhaust layout.
In the interior part, the new car continues to use the design style of the 2025 Ruihu 7 PLUS model, which is equipped with a 24.6in integrated screen, a penetrating air conditioning outlet decoration strip, a three-spoke steering wheel and an electronic block handle, which makes it feel good about technology as a whole.
According to the plan, in addition to the S700 SUV model, the subsequent joint venture plant will also produce S800 models.
The partnership between Chery and Ebro-EV MOTORS, a Spanish car company, began in April when the two sides signed an agreement in Barcelona, Spain, and formed a new joint venture to produce new electric vehicles, with a total investment of 400m euros. According to the agreement, 1250 jobs will be created when the plant goes into production, and annual production is expected to reach 50, 000 vehicles by 2027 and increase to 150000 by 2029.
Ebro-EV MOTORS, a Spanish car company, was founded in 1954 to produce agricultural vehicles and machinery, was acquired by Nissan in 1987 and began its transition to electric in 2015; Ebro pure electric pickup trucks were launched at the end of 2022.
Chery is a Chinese carmaker and currently has the largest number of overseas factories, with KD plants in Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Russia, Iran and Egypt. At the same time, the overseas market is also one of Chery's important sources of sales. Data show that in the first 10 months of this year, Chery Group sold 2.0249 million vehicles, up 39.3% from the same period last year, and for the first time in history, Chery Group sold more than 2 million vehicles this year. Among them, overseas export sales in the first 10 months were 941300 vehicles, up 23.8% from the same period last year. In 2023, Chery's export sales rose 101.1 per cent to 937100 vehicles from a year earlier, accounting for about half of total sales and well above the industry average of 56 per cent.
As for why Chery chose to set up a joint venture to build cars in Spain, the industry believes that it is related to local car development. It is understood that Spain is the second largest car producer in Europe after Germany, with production of nearly 2.5 million vehicles in 2023. Chery said that in the future, it will continue to dig deep into the Spanish market with EV MOTORS to promote local production and research and development.
At present, Chery is still expanding its overseas scale. In fact, for Chinese car companies, going out to sea is the only way to become strong, and the export of China's own brands has become more and more advantageous. People in the industry believe that in the follow-up, more car companies will join the ranks of going out to sea, when more domestic cars will go to the world.
