Some media have counted the profits of some automakers through the 2018 results released by listed car companies. Who makes the most money selling cars in China? According to statistics, Beijing Mercedes-Benz took the lead, with net profit of 20 billion yuan in 2018, annual sales of 485000 vehicles and bicycle profit of 41400 yuan. The second and third place were brilliance BMW's profit of 26800 yuan and Changan Mazda's 15200 yuan respectively.

In addition, Geely cars are the most profitable for self-branded bikes, with sales reaching 1.5 million yuan in 2018 to achieve a net profit of 12.55 billion yuan and a bicycle profit of about 8400 yuan. The sales volume of Great Wall is second only to Geely, with a bicycle profit of about 5000 yuan.

In this part of the statistical list, there are a total of 10 car companies with performance losses, namely Jianghuai Automobile, Changan Ford, Shenlong Motor, FAW Pentium, Foton Motor, Haima Motor, Changan Suzuki, FAW seahorse, Changan PSA and Tengli.

Among them, Changan PSA production law DS luxury brand, 2018 sales of only 3800 yuan, annual performance loss of 874 million yuan, equivalent to a loss of 230000 yuan on the sale of a car.

The biggest losers are the Tengli brand electric cars, a joint venture between BYD and Germany's Daimler in 2010, which has been unable to do so because of sluggish sales. In 2018, the sales volume of Tengli electric cars was only 1900, with a loss of 887 million yuan, which means the loss of bicycles is as high as 466800 yuan.

If nothing happens, Tengli will be the biggest loss-making car brand for bikes.

It is indeed amazing that Beijing Mercedes-Benz has the highest profit margin, but what is even more frightening is that the chairman of BAIC publicly stated not long ago that Mercedes-Benz's profit margin is already very thin.

In the CCTV "Dialogue" column on April 21 this year, the host asked "the reduction in the value-added tax rate in March has led to a big reduction in car prices, and Beijing Mercedes-Benz has reduced its prices by tens of thousands." Xu Heyi, chairman of BAIC Group, responded: "it is impossible to reduce prices substantially in the future, because the profit margin is already very thin and the room for price reduction is very limited."

According to BAIC's financial report, the revenue in 2018 was about 151.92 billion yuan, an increase of 13.2 percent over the same period last year, and the net profit attributable to the company's equity holders was about 4.43 billion yuan, an increase of 96.6 percent over the same period last year.

The substantial increase in BAIC's profit is mainly related to the increase in revenue and gross profit of Beijing Mercedes-Benz. The operating income of Beijing Mercedes-Benz reached 135.42 billion yuan in 2018, an increase of 16% over the same period last year, accounting for 89.1% of Beijing Automobile's total revenue in 2018. As a result, Beijing Mercedes-Benz has always been BAIC's profit machine, almost supporting BAIC as a whole.

There is also news recently that BAIC plans to buy a 5 per cent stake in Daimler for $3.4 billion (about 23.3 billion yuan) to consolidate its position in the joint venture and further bind and deepen its cooperation with Daimler.

While selling one set to make 40,000 yuan, he said that the profit was very thin. Are you kidding me? The competitors are not happy to see it!
