AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/22 Report--

At present, the lithium-ion batteries carried by electric vehicles cannot meet the needs of endurance, and Japanese manufacturers are planning to develop all-solid-state batteries that can greatly extend the driving range of electric vehicles. In addition, Tesla said that the battery team has made new progress.

Tesla recently announced that the Tesla battery research team led by battery expert Jeff Dahn has applied for a patent for a new battery chemistry that can provide faster charging speed, longer life and lower cost for batteries.

Dahn explains in the patent description that while adding up to five different compounds to the electrolyte can improve battery performance, they devised a solution that uses only two additives. Their design reduces battery costs compared to other systems that rely on more additives, and the dual-additive electrolyte system also improves the performance and life of lithium-ion batteries.

The patent application also shows that the new dual-additive mixture can be used with lithium nickel manganese cobalt (NMC cathode material) battery chemistry, which plays a role in electric vehicles or grid energy storage.

However, in the end, it depends on the actual effect. After mass production and loading, that is the real breakthrough in battery technology.
