AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)05/16 Report--

SAIC has been trying to expand outside the UK since its acquisition of the British Mingjue brand in 2008, while in India, the largest British colonial colony, SAIC acquired a closed assembly plant at General Motors in Harrol, Gujarat, western India.

In India, SAIC announced the establishment of a new Indian Mingjue Automobile, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC, while the plant in Harrol will have an annual production capacity of 120000 vehicles, which is Mingjue's third plant in South Asia; previously, MG has two joint ventures in Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Group.

In the future, Mingjue will launch four models in India, including an all-electric version of the new energy model ZS; in the future, it will provide India with an exclusive economy-focused compact model. SAIC takes a fancy to the Indian market because of the huge consumption potential of the Indian market. According to the forecast of American automobile professional research company IHS, the production of light vehicles in India is expected to reach 7 million by 2020 to become the third largest automobile market in the world. Because of this, the Indian market has also attracted the attention of a large number of Chinese brands, such as SAIC, Geely, Great Wall and so on.

MG Mingjue brand, which has "pure" British origin, has a very high degree of acceptance and recognition among users in Southeast Asia and South Asia subcontinent, especially in India, Thailand, Laos and many other countries that have been colonized by the United Kingdom. Moreover, the first model for MG Mingjue to enter the Indian market is the SUV model. Although there are objective reasons why domestic independent brands have invested more research and development in SUV and the technology is more mature than Indian car companies, on the other hand, it also helps the MG Mingjue brand to "gain a firm foothold" in the Indian market.

Some economic analysts believe that SAIC's strategy is clearly to push its own cars overseas, while using a more famous Mingjue overseas will focus on the Roewe brand that inherits the glory of Rover at home. SAIC is gradually promoting Chinese cars to the world through brand export under the stimulation of Geely. But given that India has homegrown brands such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, it remains to be seen whether Mingjue will be able to accomplish its mission.
