Only half a month after the ES8 caught fire, another ES8 in Shanghai had an accident!

According to netizens, an electric car smoking occurred in an underground garage in Jiading, Shanghai this afternoon, and the vehicle involved was ES8, causing the whole garage to be spread by thick smoke.

It is reported that after the incident, firefighters and employees of Xilai arrived at the scene to deal with it and put out the smoke, then the ES8 was towed away by a trailer.

Within a month, there have been a number of incidents of spontaneous combustion of electric vehicles in China, including the spontaneous combustion of two Tesla Model S and two ES8.

Soon, Xilai reported the accident via its official Weibo account. NIO said that 18:16 on May 16, 2019, a smoke occurred at a Fulai ES8 near Anli Road, Jiading District, Shanghai. Fire officers and soldiers rushed to the scene to put out the smoke in time, and there was no personal or other property damage at the scene. The cause of the smoke in the vehicle is unknown. Xilai has launched an investigation and will announce it in time after the cause has been identified.

From the analysis of a number of spontaneous combustion accidents, electric vehicles will first appear a large number of smoke, followed by open fire and increased fire, if the battery pack has been damaged or short circuit, it is likely to lead to deflagration.

A number of brands, including Tesla, Lulai and BYD, have recently had a number of electric vehicle spontaneous combustion accidents, while the official causes of the accidents have nothing to do with the battery pack. Tesla has not disclosed the cause of spontaneous combustion so far.

The only one who admitted that the battery pack was defective was BAIC Weiwang, whose 407EV electric van frequently caught fire and was then urgently halted, suspended and charged by Shenzhen authorities. The power battery supplier of BAIC Weiwang 407EV has distributed some battery packages with quality risks to vehicles, leading to frequent thermal runaway incidents, according to a document from the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission on May 10.

With the increase of ownership, the number of spontaneous combustion accidents of electric vehicles has been increasing recently, and many departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, have indicated that they will strengthen supervision and management to eliminate safety risks. But at present, the majority of consumers are most concerned about investigating and announcing the specific causes of these vehicles' spontaneous combustion as soon as possible.
