AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)05/17 Report--
Tesla said on Wednesday that its solar plant in Buffalo, New York, would become a "manufacturing home" for superchargers and other energy storage products for its electric vehicles, as it aims to meet employment targets related to state subsidies related to the plant.
The company disclosed the move in an annual report to New York, which said it had so far exceeded its employment and investment commitments.
Tesla reportedly employs 329 workers at the factory, while its partner Panasonic has about 400 employees there.
The electric car maker employs more than 300 people in other parts of the state. The company must have at least 500 employees in the state by April 30, and New York has subsidized the plant by $750 million as part of its commitment to New York.
Tesla's plans to produce solar products in New York have come under intense scrutiny because the company has bought SolarCity for $2.6 billion, significantly reducing the US solar business it acquired in 2016.
At the time, it planned to use the factory to make a pioneering product called "solar roofs", an energy system that looked like ordinary roof tiles. But the product entered the market much more slowly than promised.
"We are committed to investing in Buffalo and New York, and the new power electronics production line will provide more high-tech jobs while supporting Tesla's energy storage products and global supercharged infrastructure," Tesla said in an emailed statement. "
Tesla will also open three new car service centers in New York, the company said. A year later, the company needs to employ 1460 workers in the state.
Tesla carried out other new energy business development after the acquisition of solar power. Tesla's approach can not only make effective use of his own battery technology, but also create an entire product ecosystem through other products.
