After formally abolishing the national subsidy for new energy models in March, the delivery growth rate of pure electric models across the country slowed in April, while plug-in hybrid models remained robust. Electric vehicle sales rose 9.6 per cent last month from a year earlier to about 71000 units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

This is the first time that the monthly growth rate of pure electric vehicle sales has fallen below 10 per cent since the government began subsidising the purchase of new energy models in 2009. Delivery of plug-in hybrid vehicles rose 51 per cent year-on-year to about 26000 in April.

In the year to April, car sales nationwide rose 65 per cent to about 278000, while plug-in hybrid sales rose 44 per cent to about 82000.
