Safer: in our knowledge of physics from primary school, we have always believed that less than 36V is the safe voltage. But in high-voltage electric vehicles, this safety value is not scientific. On the one hand, there are great individual differences in the resistance of human body, and the resistance values of fat, thin, tall and short men, women and children are different. On the other hand, the human environment will also have an impact on the resistance of the human body, which will become smaller in wet summer and increase in dry winter. According to the comprehensive consideration of many factors, it is generally considered that DC voltage below 60V and AC voltage below 25V are safe voltages.

Low cost: the nominal voltage of the 48V hybrid is less than 60V, and even if the voltage fluctuation caused by the high SOC is taken into account, the peak voltage of the 48V hybrid system will not exceed 58V, so there is no need to take additional voltage protection measures, which is cheaper than the "Strong Hybrid" mentioned above.

Versatility: the 48V system can be compatible with more different electrical devices, such as more and more entertainment large screens and complex automobile central control systems in the vehicle field. At the same time, 48V provides a larger capacity battery, which can load the traditional internal combustion engine vehicles such as air-conditioning compressors and cooling pumps, which rely on the engine. This can not only effectively reduce the load of the engine, but also use these high-power equipment when the engine is off.

Emission reduction: with the help of BSG and ISG technology, the 48V hybrid system can further reduce the size of the engine, thereby reducing emissions. At the same time, the use of electric turbine instead of mechanical turbine can further improve the efficiency of the engine. The 48V hybrid power system can realize the functions of taxiing start and stop, kinetic energy recovery, auxiliary acceleration and so on, which can effectively avoid unnecessary fuel consumption. Compared with the generalized hybrid vehicle, the 48V hybrid system costs only 30%, which can achieve about 70% of the effect. It's quite cost-effective in terms of performance-to-price ratio.

The disadvantage is also obvious; 48V voltage is more likely to cause arc problems than 12V voltage, if long-term hot plug may affect the life of electronic equipment. Even if the cost is much lower than the hybrid system, the comprehensive update of on-board equipment brought by the 48V hybrid system will still affect the terminal price of the final vehicle.

Domestic car companies have put 48V light mixing systems on the agenda, including Chery, Geely, Chang'an, Great Wall, Zhongtai, Jianghuai Dongfeng and other car companies. Among them, the popularity of light mixing system products is the highest for Geely, its Borey GE model is divided into plug-in and universal hybrid 48V hybrid system. The Geely Jiaji and Geely Xingyue models that appear on the market this year have the same 1.5T+48V hybrid system as Borey GE. In the future, Lecker's models will also be equipped with a 48V hybrid system.

In terms of joint venture brands, Shanghai GM, FAW-Volkswagen, Shanghai Volkswagen, Beijing Mercedes-Benz, Jiangling Ford and other manufacturers have also gradually begun to install 48v hybrid systems in their models. SAIC GM announced that it will launch a total of more than 60 new or modified models in the five years from 2019 to 2023, including more than 9 domestic new plug-in or pure electric vehicles. At the same time, the mixing of traditional fuel vehicles is also in SAIC GM's plans, for example, more and more new fuel vehicles will be equipped with 48V light mixing system. And Beijing Mercedes-Benz early 2019 modified Mercedes-Benz C200 model with 1.5T engine 48v hybrid system to replace 2.0t low-power engine. Jiangling Ford's newly launched leading model is equipped with a 1.5T three-cylinder 48v hybrid system.

In part, the 48V hybrid system is considered to be the excessive product of the electrical modification of the early 12V automobiles. Compared with the traditional hybrid platform models, the 48V voltage has great advantages in cost and mature technology, which is suitable for some car companies with insufficient technical conditions. The 48v hybrid system can also drive the vehicle independently, which can better meet the new energy vehicle definition standard. In the future, the light mixing system will gradually become popular in the Chinese market and become standard.
