It will compete with Bentley and Mercedes-Benz Maybach S65L at the same level. The top version of A8 is expected to be unveiled around 2021.

Little is known about the top version of the Audi A8, saying only that it is positioned as "an ultra-luxury and prestigious derivative model". This statement suggests that the top version of A8 may have something to do with Audi's history. In 1904, August Horch (Augustus Hodge) and Salli Herz founded Horch & Cie. Motorwagenwerke AG, named after Horch five years later, founded a new company, August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH, and changed its name to Audi Automobilwerke in 1910. As for the connection between Horch and Audi, foreign media have reported that Horch (whose Latin is Audi) will become the top version of a certain Audi car. The Horch model is expected to be based on the Audi A8 L, but the wheelbase will not be extended. In contrast, Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury model Mercedes-Maybach-Maybach S-Class sedans extend the wheelbase on the basis of the former.

It is reported that the luxury version of the "configuration far exceeds the standard version of A8", using custom alloy wheels, front bezel or C-pillar decorated with the word "Horch" badge. The power side will be equipped with a 6.0-liter W12 twin-turbocharged engine with Audi quattro full-time four-wheel drive system, with a power output of at least the same as the standard Audi A8, reaching 439 kilowatts. At the same time, the positioning of the new car is the same as that of Bentley and Muchan, while the power output of the latter two can reach 470 kW.

Although Audi confirmed that it would launch a deluxe version of the A8, it did not disclose the exact date of the release. The debut of the new car is expected to be during the mid-term change of the Audi A8. The current Audi A8 was released at the end of 2017, and the medium-term revamped model is expected to be released around 2021.
