Production of Jaguar's flagship luxury car, XJ, has been suspended and production of the car will officially end in July, foreign media reported.

In response to the news, Jaguar brand spokesman Autocar said that Jaguar plans to continue to use the XJ brand. It means there will be a next generation of Jaguar XJ models, but there will be no successor models anytime soon.

Poor sales may be one of the reasons why the car stopped production at this time. According to data released by foreign media, only 1579 XJ were sold in the United States in 2018 and only 502 so far in 2019, making the XJ the least popular Jaguar model.

Jaguar XJ's main competitors are BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and other D-class luxury cars, which are priced at 88.80-1.068 million yuan in China, equipped with 3.0T mechanically supercharged engine, maximum horsepower 340Ps and maximum torque 450N ·m.

It is reported that the next generation of Jaguar XJ will launch an electric version, or will become an electric car on the market. However, the news has not been confirmed by Jaguar.

Jaguar Land Rover announced its electrification strategy in 2018 and plans to invest 13.5 billion pounds ($18 billion) in extra electrification in the global market over three years, and in a few years all models will be available with gas, electric and hybrid cars. Jaguar Land Rover also revealed that if the demand of electric car users is large enough, it will only produce pure electric vehicles.

Jaguar Land Rover reported full-year revenue of 24.2 billion pounds in the fiscal year (April 2018-March 2019), down 6% from a year earlier, and a full-year pre-tax profit of 358 million pounds (3.143 billion yuan). A net loss of 3.6 billion pounds (31.6 billion yuan). After the worst third quarter in history, Jaguar turned a profit in the fourth quarter, but Jaguar Land Rover still lost money for the whole year, and the company plans to accelerate its electrification strategy.
