Ernst & Young yesterday released a report on investment in electric vehicles in the automotive industry, which showed that the global auto industry spent more than 8.4 billion euros on electric vehicle research and development in 2018, double the figure in 2017. The data in the report only show that the car factory is investing in the production line and the cost of building the factory, and does not include research and development.

The data is based on the annual financial reports, investor reports and related press releases of 16 multinational automobile groups around the world from 2015 to 2018. German automobile companies, represented by Daimler Group, have invested the most in the field of electric vehicles, spending a total of 4.6 billion euros (35.503 billion yuan) on producing pure electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles in 2015-2018. After BMW, BMW invested 3.2 billion euros (24.67 billion yuan) in 2018, the third place is Volkswagen, and Volkswagen invested 3 billion euros between 2015 and 2018. The data report does not describe in detail the R & D investment of Chinese auto companies in new energy.
