AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/06 Report--

New car sales in China have continued to decline, and mainstream automakers have also seen a decline in sales due to the depressed market environment, but Japanese brands have maintained their growth momentum, such as Toyota and Honda. Sales in China continued to increase year-on-year in May, but Nissan and Mazda declined.

Toyota continued to win the top spot in Japanese brand sales in May, with new car sales of 138500 vehicles, up 12.1% from a year earlier, and Toyota achieved 15 consecutive months of growth. The main car Camry and upscale brand Lexus maintained high sales, of which Lexus sold nearly 76000 cars in China from January to May, up 27% from a year earlier.

2019 will be the largest year in Toyota's history to put goods into the Chinese market, and from June it will also launch electric cars made by Wilfa, the new Corolla, the new RAV4 and two joint ventures.

In second place was Honda, which sold 136486 vehicles in China in May, up 37.4 per cent from a year earlier. Honda's sales base fell 15.3% year-on-year in the same period last year due to the recall of quality defects, and now sales have increased significantly after the recovery.

In terms of specific models, Honda reported that six models sold more than 10, 000 units in May, of which 18252 were sold by the 10th-generation Accord; Civic sales continued to decline, with 13735 in May, and it is not clear whether the new model will boost sales after its launch; CR-V sales are 16951; INSPIRE and Henderson are both about 4, 000.

However, Honda no longer provides sales data for the Acura brand, and brands with monthly sales of only three figures are indeed very bleak in China's highly competitive market environment.

Sales at the other two of Japan's big four automakers fell year-on-year.

Nissan's sales in China fell 4.8 per cent to 121895 in May, while Nissan's total sales in China from January to May were 587000, down 0.4 per cent from a year earlier. Nissan is facing the problem of product upgrading and lack of competitiveness of new cars.

Mazda is bleak, with sales falling for 13 months in a row. Mazda China officially released sales figures of 17385 units in May, down 29% from the same period last year. January-May sales totaled 86771 units, down 31.4% from a year earlier.

Mazda said, "China's auto market continues to be in the doldrums, and Mazda's sales still face challenges." Together with our two partners in China, we will continue to adhere to value management and continue to convey the advantages of Mazda brand and products to consumers through brand enhancement activities. In addition, Mazda plans to launch a new generation of products with next-generation technology in the Chinese market this year, looking forward to good sales performance. "

Affected by the economic environment, the trade friction between the United States and China, the implementation of the sixth national emission standards and other factors, the domestic car market is depressed, while some luxury brands and Japanese brands are growing against the market, showing different trends.
