Infiniti's sales in China plummeted in May, with sales of 3098 vehicles in May, down 7.8 per cent from a year earlier, of which Dongfeng Infiniti Q50L sales were only 833, down 51 per cent from a year earlier, while Infiniti imported cars sold only 579 vehicles in May, down 70 per cent from a year earlier.

In recent years, Infiniti sales in China has entered a dilemma, since localization, the annual sales volume has not exceeded 50000 vehicles. In 2019, the domestic passenger car market is in the doldrums, and the sales pressure of Infiniti is also unprecedented. on March 1 this year, Infiniti announced a new personnel appointment. Mao limin officially took over as general manager of Dongfeng Infiniti Automobile Co., Ltd., hoping to make Infiniti get rid of sales difficulties through "coach change" method, but after Maolimin took office, Infiniti's market performance has not improved, and the future prospect is even more worrying.

However, since the new QX50 was launched only in June 2018, Uni-President's sales of the car fell by 58 per cent in May. In addition, another domestic Q50L flagship model sold 833 in May, down 51% from a year earlier. The Q50L has always been the main model of Infiniti. In 2018, the Q50L completed the mid-term modification, and the product strength improved, which should have increased sales. However, in May this year, the Q50L sold only 833 vehicles, a far cry from the 1704 in the same period last year. The decline in sales has become an indisputable fact. Although sales of the new QX50, which went on sale in the middle of last year, rebounded somewhat, the growth rate was not as fast as the decline of Q50L, and QX50 obviously could not reverse the decline.

In addition to domestic cars, Infiniti imported cars also declined. In May this year, Infiniti sold 579 imported cars, which is less than a fraction of last year's sales. After the sales downturn, Infiniti cut prices sharply on the terminal, with 30000-40000 discounts on Q50L and the new QX50. Although price cuts can stimulate sales growth, blind price cuts may damage brand image, which may not necessarily play a big role in sales for Infiniti now.
