The suspension of production of the Cadillac CT6 was extended from June this year to January 2020. It is understood that since the beginning of 2019, GM has chosen to close factories in South Korea, Mexico and other places to save money in order to increase investment in self-driving and electric vehicle technology.

Despite GM's poor sales in the United States and the recent discontinuation of production of its best-selling model, the Bruze, many industry insiders speculate that GM will change the old model, or increase the hybrid or electric version. GM's Hamtrunk plant in the United States is still producing Chevrolet Impala and Cadillac CT6 sedans.

GM's move, backed by the United Auto Workers Union in Detroit, said GM's decision was good news for local workers and their families.

According to statistics, SAIC GM sold 1970117 vehicles (including 158096 exports) in 2018, down 1.5 per cent from the same period last year. Driven by its luxury cars and mid-and high-end models, SAIC General Motors sold 1.812 million vehicles domestically; its export business increased by 48.7% compared with the same period last year.
