AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/07 Report--

For the category of pick-up trucks, the United States is definitely the most influential market in the world in this field, but there are fewer and fewer pickups on the way to China. In consumers' impression, pickups are low-end, reloaded minivans, coupled with various restrictions and policies. For people who like pickups and like to play with pickups, it is undoubtedly not very friendly.

As new car sales in China's auto market continue to decline, the demand for traditional passenger cars (cars, SUV, MPV) is declining, and pickup models, which have been neglected, are expected to usher in an explosive period. On June 6, the National Development and Reform Commission and other three ministries jointly issued the "implementation Plan for promoting the Renewal and upgrading of key Consumer goods and the Recycling of Resources (2019-2020)". In addition to gradually abolishing the purchase restrictions to promote automobile consumption, the further lifting of the ban on pickup models has also been included in the key projects of the reform.

In the implementation plan, it is clearly stated that cities at the prefecture level and below with conditions are encouraged to speed up the lifting of restrictions on the entry of pick-up trucks to cities, so as to give full play to the dual-use function of pick-up trucks.

In the document of the National Development and Reform Commission in April this year, there was a more detailed interpretation of the lifting of the ban on pickup, including "expanding the pilot scope of pickup to cities from six provinces and autonomous regions such as Hebei to areas with strong market demand by 2020." all cities at prefecture level and below will abolish restrictions on pickup access. "

"pickup restrictions" has always been a pain point to limit pickup consumption, and now it is about to be lifted in some cities. It is believed that it can further promote pickup sales and develop pickup market advantages.

In fact, the restrictions on pickups go far beyond "restrictions on entering the city". Pickups are defined as a category of trucks in China, which will cause problems such as traffic restrictions, speed limits, inkjet printing, and sticking reflective strips. And these follow-up may be gradually lifted, in the real sense ushered in the spring of pickups.

As early as the beginning of 2018, the national standard of the people's Republic of China was formally implemented, the pickup models were managed separately from ordinary trucks, and the restrictions on spray lettering and reflective strips on the body were also abolished.

The new national standard document shows that all trucks (except multi-purpose trucks) and special operating vehicles (except fire engines) should spray total mass on both sides of the cab (area) in the publicity of the total spraying quality and fence height. Fence trucks and dump trucks should also spray fence height on both sides of the cab.

Item 8.4.2 on the body reflective bar logo shows that all trucks (except semi-trailer tractors, multi-purpose trucks), special operating vehicles and trailers modified into truck chassis (except caravans) should be equipped with body reflective signs on the side.

We can see that the two regulations explicitly exclude "multi-purpose trucks", and multi-purpose trucks are what we often call "pick-up trucks".

A clear definition of a multi-purpose vehicle: a multi-purpose vehicle refers to a truck with a long-headed body and cab structure, the approved number of passengers is less than or equal to 5 (including drivers), the cab height is less than or equal to 2100mm, the upper lift-off height of the box fence is less than or equal to 1500mm, and the maximum designed total mass is less than or equal to 3500kg.

In other words, since January 1, 2018, pickup models are no longer subject to the same restrictions as ordinary trucks, and the restrictions on body printing and reflective strips are a thing of the past.

Although pickups still belong to the category of "multi-purpose trucks" rather than passenger vehicles, many restrictions have been lifted, and the scope of application of pick-up trucks will be further expanded as national and local governments speed up the lifting of restrictions on pickups entering the city.

Many netizens often ask whether the ban on pickups has been lifted nationwide. In fact, there is still a long way to go to lift the ban in the real sense, and if pickups are classified as passenger cars, that is the real lifting of the ban. However, rules such as abolishing the restrictions on pickup trucks entering the city are gradually abolished, which can also be regarded as a sign of progress.
