The wholesale new energy passenger car market reached a good sales level of 97000 units in May, up 5.8 per cent from April and 5.4 per cent year-on-year. From January to May this year, 442000 new energy narrow passenger cars were sold nationwide, an increase of 58.0% over the same period last year.
According to the major car companies, in May 2019, the top three companies in terms of narrow passenger car sales were SAIC General Motors, FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen, and their sales were basically the same. China's independent brands, only Geely Motor and SAIC Wuling, ranked fifth and sixth in May with comprehensive sales of 85000 and 71000 respectively. Japanese cars performed well in May, with Guangzhou Auto Honda and Dongfeng Honda ranked seventh and ninth respectively, FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota ranked eighth and 10th respectively.
In terms of various models, Xuanyi contractors topped the list of cars in May, surpassing the second place by 2030, down 6.2% from the same period last year, while Volkswagen Longyi, which ranked second, was only 901 vehicles behind the third Toyota Corolla, down 7.1% from the same period last year. In the data, only Audi made the list, with cumulative sales of 12102 vehicles, up 9.2% from the same period last year.
Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the all-China Federation of passengers, believes that the pace of production and marketing in June will be relatively chaotic and, to a certain extent, affect the market competition pattern in July and August. Cui Dongshu also believes that in order to stabilize sales, local governments that implement the sixth national standard ahead of time should give national five vehicles a three-month transition period.
The environment is complex in the second half of the year, and there is more room for economic and policy flexibility. It is suggested that manufacturers lower their short-term production and marketing targets, wait and see the environment and policy changes, and then revise the annual plan reasonably.
