Talks between Volkswagen and Argo AI could be reached this summer, according to a person familiar with the matter, and Volkswagen has said it hopes Ford will produce battery-powered cars on its electric vehicle platform. Volkswagen plans to invest $1.7 billion in Argo AI, Ford's self-driving division. Of this amount, $600 million was invested as an equity investment to ensure that Volkswagen and Ford each own half of the business. In addition, US $1.1 billion is used for the R & D operation of Argo AI.
