According to foreign media, Zeljko Popovic, head of Tesla's awareness business for autopilot systems, has left to join Embark, a San Francisco-based automated freight start-up. So far, Popovici has confirmed his departure.

When he left, it was a critical period for Tesla's development in the field of autopilot. Tesla officially promised that by the end of next year, his electric cars will have the function of "self-driving taxis" and that they will be fully self-driving under normal conditions without the need for human intervention. Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla, said that by 2020, there will be 1 million Tesla cars on the road to carry out "self-driving taxi" (robotaxi) business.

Tesla suffered a continuous loss of key technical personnel in self-driving this year. Earlier, Jim Keller, vice president of autopilot, left to join Intel, while chief engineer Doug Field returned to Apple to work on projects related to self-driving technology.

Zelco's new company, Embark, was founded in 2015, and its main business is to integrate self-driving systems into truck systems, rather than building its own trucks from scratch, and these trucks are usually driven by human supervisors. Currently, the company has more than a dozen trucks and more than 60 employees. Earlier, Embark admitted that Amazon was using its own self-driving truck to transport some goods on California's Imuri 10 interstate.
