Recently, AutoX, GAC GROUP, Wenyuan Zhixing, Xiaoma Zhixing, Shenlan and other enterprises have received road test notices issued by the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Transportation, the Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, and the Public Security Bureau, becoming the first batch of enterprises to obtain the qualification of Guangzhou Intelligent Network Automobile Road Test. After going north to Shenzhen, Guangzhou has become the fourth first-tier city in China to obtain an autopilot driving test license.

At the end of 2018, AutoX was granted a self-driving license issued by Zhaoqing City; on July 2, 2018, Xiao Ma Zhixing also received a self-driving road test license issued by the Beijing Municipal Government; and in April 2018, GAC GROUP received Chongqing's first self-driving road test license. These companies already have road test licenses in other cities.

The progress of domestic road test license issuance is slower than that of foreign countries. In May 2012, Nevada issued the first self-driving road test license for Google's Waymo in the United States. But in China, the country's first autopilot driving test license was issued in March 2018. Obtaining an autopilot road test license means that companies can conduct real car tests.

According to the statistics of China Automotive Industry Information Network, as of April this year, 109 self-driving road test licenses have been issued in China, involving 16 cities. Among them, Beijing has the largest number of awards, far more than other cities, with 59, followed by Chongqing with 12.
