AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/19 Report--

With the global trend of electrification, major manufacturers are no longer willing to invest huge amounts of capital to develop large-displacement engines, but will shift their targets to turbocharged, even hybrid models or pure electric models, resulting in a gradual shrinkage of the market for large-displacement engines.

Toyota Land Cruiser, as a medium and large SUV, will have a large displacement engine and has been highly sought after by off-road enthusiasts.

However, it is learned from foreign media that the new Toyota Land Cruiser will cancel the V8 engine and switch to the V6 engine. At the same time, the new car is expected to add hybrid models and will be unveiled next year. It is expected to be launched by the end of 2021.

The brand-new Land Cruiser, with a front banner grille with chrome wrap and rugged headlight sets on both sides, looks very robust. The new car will still have a non-load-bearing body and will be based on Toyota's latest TNGA architecture, with lightweight and safety upgrades for the ground and body, and the latest version of the TSS Safety Assistance Package.

According to previous media exposure news, after the new car replacement, it is expected that the car length will become shorter, the wheelbase will remain unchanged, its length, width and height is 4950×1980×1920mm, wheelbase 2850 mm.

The biggest change in the new Land Cruiser is the powertrain, eliminating the previous high-displacement V8 engine and replacing it with a new 3.5T twin-turbo engine with a maximum power of 421 hp and a peak torque of 600 N·m. The driveline will be matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Bernard Nadal, Toyota's head of product planning and development in Australia, once said: "Most brands, whether diesel or gasoline, have eliminated V8 engines in pursuit of efficiency and reduced emissions, which is a world trend." The new Land Cruiser cancels the V8 and adds hybrid models, perhaps to follow the current car development situation and to increase Toyota's product competitiveness.
