In early June this year, the National Development and Reform Commission and other departments jointly issued the implementation Plan for promoting the Renewal and upgrading of key Consumer goods and the Recycling of Resources, which clearly stated that "cities at the prefecture level and below with conditions are encouraged to speed up the lifting of restrictions on the entry of pickups into cities, and give full play to the dual-use function of pickups. The implementation of this program means that it is possible to lift the ban on pickups and further develop the market advantages of pickups.

Jinan, Shandong Province has become the first city to "lift the ban"! On June 19, the Jinan Public Security Bureau issued a notice on lifting urban road restrictions on multi-purpose trucks (pick-up trucks) and light and miniature new energy trucks. From now on, traffic restrictions on urban roads of multi-purpose trucks (pick-up trucks) and light and mini trucks with new energy vehicle license plates will be lifted throughout the city, and the above-mentioned vehicles do not need to apply for vehicle entry records or permits.

However, the circular also pointed out that the above-mentioned vehicles should also comply with other traffic management regulations formulated in accordance with the law according to the needs of air pollution prevention and control, traffic flow control during peak hours, and so on.

In fact, this is not a complete lifting of the ban. For example, although Jinan, Shandong Province, has liberalized the restrictions on pickup truck traffic in the core area, and there is no need to apply for vehicle registration or permission to drive in the urban area, it has also extended the control restrictions during peak hours, and pickup trucks are allowed to pass only during the morning and evening peak hours (7: 00 to 9: 00, 16:00 to 19:00), and those who pass in the morning and evening peak traffic will be punished in accordance with the prohibition sign.

It can be seen that the pickup is still that pickup and is still defined as a "multi-purpose truck", which means that the identity of its truck will not change all the time, but more measures are given to lift the restrictions on the basis of the attributes of the truck.

The restrictions on pick-up trucks go far beyond "restrictions on entering the city". Pick-up trucks are defined as a category of trucks in China, which will cause problems such as traffic restrictions, speed limits, inkjet, reflective strips and so on.

With the demand for dual-use pickup trucks, these restrictions are expected to be gradually lifted. In the latest GB implementation documents, pickup models are no longer subject to the same restrictions and management as ordinary trucks, and the constraints of body printing and reflective strips have become a thing of the past. And speed up the implementation of restrictions on pickup trucks into the city, but also give further play to the market advantages of pickups.

If one day the pickup is put into the passenger car category, and ordinary passenger cars as unlimited, that is the real sense of lifting the ban. However, many of the current restrictions on pickups have been lifted, which is also a sign of progress. As the state and local governments speed up the lifting of restrictions on pickup truck entry into the city, the scope of application of pickup truck will be further expanded.

Data show that domestic pickup terminal sales in May were 30400, up 1.76% from the same period last year, and the cumulative terminal sales from January to May this year were 174000, an increase of 10.14% over the same period last year. In the environment of depressed passenger car sales, the signal of "lifting the ban" of pickup trucks will also be a signal of the outbreak of the pickup market.
