According to foreign media reports, Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport recently said that Mercedes-Benz diesel vehicles were involved in passing exhaust gas tests by software fraud after discovering that they were equipped with software designed to cheat emission tests. The German Federal Motor Vehicle Administration, a subsidiary of the Transport Agency, has ordered Daimler to recall about 60,000 diesel Mercedes Benz cars in Germany.

The German Federal Ministry of Transport found in an investigation that Daimler's diesel version of the Mercedes GLK 220 CDI sport utility vehicle produced between 2012 and 2015 did have software emissions fraud.

Daimler confirmed the recall was ordered last Friday but said it would appeal the decision while continuing to cooperate with regulators in the investigation. Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport said it was expanding its investigation into other Mercedes-Benz models.

According to the survey, these cars meet emission limits only if a certain function is activated. Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport noticed software anomalies when it detected the compact SUV's OM 651 engine in autumn 2018, subsequently confirming suspicions of software cheating. When Daimler upgraded its software, it had secretly deleted the "cheating software".

Since Volkswagen admitted cheating on U.S. emissions tests in 2015, Emissions Gate has affected other automakers. In June last year, the German government asked Daimler to recall 238,000 diesel vehicles across Germany on the grounds of installing cheating software, mainly Mercedes-Benz Viking business vehicles and Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d and C220d models. In 2017, Daimler ordered a recall of 3 million vehicles to fix excessive emissions from diesel engines.
