AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/24 Report--

According to foreign media, General Motors is considering developing an electric version of the Hummer. According to GM's plan, Hummer, as GM's electric brand focusing on SUV and pickup models, will compete with the upcoming pickup models from RIVIAN and Tesla. With GM's current technology reserves, it is very simple to "revive" the Hummer. BEV3, the pure electric vehicle platform currently developed by GM, will be launched in 2021. After the development of the platform, GM will develop its pure electric platform for pick-up trucks and other full-size models.

GM is trying to transform itself from a traditional fuel carmaker into one that CEO Marie Bora describes as embracing a "pure electric future". GM is rushing to develop the next generation of electric vehicles, and Hummer is one of its many options.

But when asked about this, GM President Mark Reuss did not give an affirmative answer.

Judging from GM's current technical reserves, it is only a matter of time before the Hummer is revived by electrification. GM is currently busy with two major electric vehicle projects. The first is the BEV3 project, which aims to develop passenger cars, cross-border SUV and a variety of other small and medium-sized models. The second plan is to produce electric pick-up trucks and other full-size models, some of which have off-road performance.

Among GM's brands are large SUV models such as the Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade, as well as larger models such as GM Sierra pick-up trucks and Yukon SUV. GM also has Denali luxury models and AT4-branded off-road trucks. Reus says all models can be equipped with electric power systems.

GM launched its first civilian Hummer military vehicle in 1992 and acquired Hummer in 1998. Hummers are famous for their great role in the Gulf War. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly supported the brand and its first model, later the Hummer H1, in the early years. The $60, 000 Hummer H2 SUV, which uses parts from Chevrolet pickups and SUV, went on sale in 2002 after it was acquired by GM. The Hummer H2 is popular with many consumers who value performance and appearance, and GM has launched medium-sized H3 SUV and H3T pickups.

The car is too heavy to meet government fuel economy testing standards, further angering environmentalists. The rise in oil prices to $100 a barrel eventually led to the end of Hummer's fate. GM retained the brand when Hummer went bankrupt in 2009, but stopped selling it in 2010.

According to the data, Hummer sales peaked in 2006, with sales in the United States reaching 71524, but by 2010, sales had fallen below 4000.

Even if GM passes a plan to build an electric Hummer, it will take years for the model to come out. GM's electric truck program is progressing steadily, and the electric Hummer may not be realized in the short term. if it happens in the future, will it become GM's new sales growth point in the pickup field? It may have to be tested by the market.
