ES8 recalled a total of 4803 vehicles due to battery package safety problems, according to a recall notice issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration of Xilai Automobile on June 27. However, on the day of the recall, it was revealed that another case of ES8 spontaneous combustion occurred. The video clearly shows a white ES8 emitting white smoke in the basement, but there is no open fire yet, while people around them keep repeating: "Yulai is on fire, Yulai is on fire." It is said that the accident occurred in an underground parking garage in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province.

NIO's official Weibo has not released a statement so far, and in a media interview, Xilai confirmed the news of the spontaneous combustion accident.

In the CCTV financial report, Zhu Jiang, vice president of user development, said: this is true. We are still in the stage of investigation, but what we can be sure is that this car is also within the scope of the recall.

According to statistics, this is the fourth spontaneous combustion accident that occurred in more than two months.

Judging from the cumulative delivery of 17550 ES8 vehicles by the end of May, the defect recall covers a wide range of areas, accounting for 27.37 per cent of the total.

A total of 4803 Lulai ES8 electric vehicles with power battery packs manufactured between April 2, 2018 and October 19, 2018 were recalled, according to notices issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration on June 27.

According to the investigation, it is found that the battery pack used by the vehicle involved is equipped with a module with a specification model of NEV-P50, and the voltage sampling harness in the module may be squeezed by the cover plate of the module due to improper direction. In extreme cases, the insulating material on the surface of the extruded voltage sample harness may be worn, resulting in short circuit and safety risks.

Battery pack maker Ningde Times also issued a statement saying that the batch module uses a customized design, which is only used in the 4803 ES8 products recalled this time.

The recall measure is to replace the battery pack of the specification model NEV-P102 module free of charge to eliminate the safety hidden danger. At the same time, all NEV-P50 module battery packs in the circulation system will also be replaced, and the replacement work will be completed within two months.

Li Bin, founder of Xilai Automobile, said: although it is the most expensive way to eliminate safety risks by using better battery packs, it is indeed the most reassuring way for us.
