According to public information, China's automobile recall system was officially implemented in 2004. by the end of 2018, a total of 1768 vehicle recalls had been implemented, of which 69.25 million vehicles were recalled involving hidden safety trouble. the total cost borne by the automobile manufacturer due to the recall of vehicles is about 52.9 billion yuan, and the cumulative loss of consumers is indirectly recovered about 52 billion yuan.

A few days ago, according to relevant media statistics from the website of the defective Product Management Center of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, as of June 19, the State Municipal Administration of Administration had issued a total of 84 vehicle recalls, involving 2.7596 million vehicles with safety risks, down nearly 40 per cent from the same period last year. Among them, the number of German car recalls broke out, with a total of more than 1.83 million vehicles, accounting for nearly 60% of the total recall, while the outbreak of a single safety problem was a total of 9 recalls of "Takata airbags", and more than 670000 vehicles involved in the safety problems. In the first half of 19 years, an average of one recall was issued every 2.1 days, and by comparison, although the number of recalls in the first half of this year was lower than that in the previous three years, the number of recalls issued was still more than 69 in 2016.

In terms of cars, German brands are "at the top". Of the 84 recall notices in the first half of this year, 30 were recalled by German brands, while 1.8335 million vehicles were recalled involving safety risks, accounting for 66.44 per cent of the total. Among the recalled German brands, BMW and Mercedes-Benz accounted for 80%, BMW brand recalled 45.31% of vehicles with safety risks, a total of 830800 vehicles, while Mercedes-Benz accounted for 39.30%, a total of 720500 vehicles were recalled.

Judging from the reasons for the recall, "Takata airbag" has become synonymous with safety risks so far. It has been listed nine times in previous recall reports, involving many car companies, such as BMW, Toyota, Tesla, Subaru, Ferrari and so on. It is worth mentioning that Takata filed for bankruptcy in June 2017, but the hidden problems of its airbags continue to affect a number of car companies. Among the worst affected are BMW and Toyota, which recalled 360000 and 191500 vehicles respectively because of hidden dangers in Takata airbags.

In terms of the number of single recalls, Mercedes-Benz issued a recall report in May 19 involving more than 570000 vehicles, of which both domestic and imported models had safety risks, ranking first. The hidden danger of the vehicle model is that the control arm bushing may come off when the vehicle shock absorber is impacted by external force, and the shock absorber fork head may be broken in extreme conditions.

It is worth mentioning that of the 84 recall notices in the first half of 1919, 14 were "passive recall" notices, which refer to recall measures initiated by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in the context of defect investigations. The number of passive recalls accounted for 16.67% of the total recalls, but the number of vehicles recalled accounted for 30.48% of the total.

The most notable of these is the recall announcement issued by Lulai on June 27th, recalling 4803 Lulai ES8 electric vehicles equipped with defective power battery modules. On the other hand, three spontaneous combustion accidents occurred in just two months before the recall due to defects in the power battery module, and it was revealed that another spontaneous combustion occurred in Shijiazhuang on the day of the recall notice, which is wonderful.

It is worth affirming that these car companies take the initiative to recall before there are a large number of accidents due to safety risks, but they carry out perfect testing before the vehicles leave the factory, and it is the best policy to reduce the occurrence of problematic vehicles. This is particularly important today when new energy vehicles are becoming more and more popular.
