AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/01 Report--

According to the statistics of the authoritative website EV Sales, the global registration of electric vehicles in May was 180000, a year-on-year growth rate of 12%. From January to May this year, the cumulative number of electric vehicles registered was 811000, an increase of 52% over the same period last year, accounting for about 2.3% of the total automobile market share. Global electric vehicle growth fell sharply in May (29 per cent year-on-year in April), mainly due to the impact of a 2 per cent year-on-year growth in the Chinese market, according to EV Sales analysis.

Inspired by the trend of energy saving, environmental protection and green travel, the global passenger car market has shown a high growth trend in recent years, and has doubled for many years.

Chinese electric cars accounted for half of the market in the top 20 in May, with BYD's EV, BAIC's EU series and BYD's e5 accounting for three of the top five, thanks to China's status as the world's largest auto market. However, it is understood that most of the domestic models in the ranking are sold domestically and rely on various policy support provided by the Chinese government.

In May, Tesla still dominated the list of best-selling electric vehicles in the world, with 17900 Model 3 sold worldwide. However, Tesla Model S and Model X are not seen in the top 20 list in May. Perhaps it is because there have been a number of spontaneous combustion accidents in Model S this year, which have a great impact on Tesla's car model.

The second largest cumulative sales volume is BYD Yuan EV, which is the best performer in the domestic market. As the most "low-key" new car to be unveiled at BYD's spring product launch at the end of March, and the top seller of the compact pure electric SUV in 2018, Yuan EV has always had a good market reputation.

BAIC EU series sold 7079 vehicles in May, making it the second best-selling electric vehicle in the world. As the earliest brand involved in the field of new energy vehicles, BAIC New Energy has also accumulated a certain reputation.

Nissan sold 4678 Leafs in May and ranked fourth on the list with a total of 29700 this year. In fact, this data should not include the amount of pure electricity of the leaf in the domestic version of Xuanyi. Although the model has performed well in the global market, it has repeatedly failed to live up to expectations in China.

Since the launch of E6 in 2009, BYD has been ploughing deeply in the new energy vehicle market for ten years, bringing a leading industrial layout and profound technology accumulation, which provides support for BYD to seize the opportunity of global electric wave. It doesn't seem surprising that Yuan EV sold 6044 vehicles in May, ranking third in the world. In addition, BYD e5 and Tang DM both entered the TOP 20 list.

In the global top 20 sales list, a total of 5 PHEV models appear, accounting for 23% of the sales of new energy vehicles. Among them, Tang DM, BMW 530Le and Passat PHEV rely on the Chinese market to be included in the list, so it is no wonder that Volkswagen and Toyota's electric car plans pay special attention to the layout in China.

Independent brand new energy models have appeared in the top 20 of global sales. Moreover, however, Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Kona EV models will also be made in China, and sales will also increase.
