According to relevant data, US light vehicle sales fell 2.2 per cent in June from a year earlier to 1294883, the sixth consecutive month of decline, and led to a 2.3 per cent drop in US light vehicle sales to 7186350 vehicles compared with the same period last year. However, the seasonally adjusted annualized sales rate last month was 17.29 million, exceeding 17 million for the third time in four months.

Among automakers, sales of Hyundai and Fiat Chrysler rose in the United States in June; Hyundai rose for the 11th month in a row, while FCA grew 1.9% on strong Ram truck sales; Subaru, Kia, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen were also winners. By contrast, sales of Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and General Motors all fell last month.

Ford sales in the US fell 4.7 per cent in June, with Ford brand sales down 4.6 per cent, although sales of its F-series pick-up trucks rose slightly; Lincoln brand sales fell 8 per cent.

GM no longer publicly reports monthly results, but authorities estimate that GM's U.S. sales fell 0.9% year-on-year last month, including a 5.9% drop for Chevrolet, 8.2% for Cadillac and 8% for GMC, and 18% for Buick. GM's cumulative sales in the United States fell 4.3% in the first half of this year.

FCA sold 206083 new cars in the US last month, up 1.9 per cent from the same period last year, thanks to a 45 per cent increase in Ram sales. Among them, the delivery volume of Ram pickups reached more than 68000, surpassing Chevrolet's Silverado, making it the second best-selling pickup in the United States in the first half of the year.

Sales of all FCA brands except Ram fell last month, with Jeep down 12 per cent, Chrysler 4 per cent, Dodge 17 per cent, Alfa Romeo 29 per cent and Fiat 35 per cent.

Toyota's sales fell 3.5% in June from a year earlier, with Toyota brands down 3.5% and Lexus down 3%. Nissan fell 15 per cent, the Nissan brand fell 15.4 per cent and the Infiniti brand fell 8 per cent.

Honda delivered 135901 new cars in the United States last month, down 7.3% from the same period last year, with Honda down 6.3% and Acura down 16%.

Among other European carmakers, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen all posted sales growth last month, with Mercedes-Benz's US sales up 0.5 per cent, BMW 3.9 per cent and Volkswagen 5.9 per cent. Among luxury brands, brands such as Mercedes (up 0.7% year-on-year), BMW (7.5% year-on-year), Volvo (0.7% year-on-year), Porsche (6.4% year-on-year) and Gaines (137% year-on-year) have achieved growth, only three luxury brands have seen sales decline. They are Audi (down 0.3 per cent year-on-year), Jaguar (down 20 per cent) and Land Rover (down 5.6 per cent).

Overall, US light vehicle sales fell by 2.4% in the first half of this year. Although the burden of consumers will put more and more pressure on the market, economic growth and lower gasoline prices will continue to support the development of light vehicles. In addition, the growth fluid of commercial and rental agency business has boosted automakers' sales, and according to analysis, car sales are expected to set a new record in 2019.
