According to media reports, on the afternoon of July 5, in a new energy vehicle charging station in Hongshan District, Wuhan, a Geely electric car suddenly emitted black smoke, mainly from the bottom of the rear of the vehicle, and there was no open fire at the scene.

It is understood that after receiving the alarm, two fire engines and 12 firefighters from the Hongshan South Lake Fire Squadron rushed to the scene. At this time, the ground under the car had been blackened, and firefighters immediately used water guns to cool the vehicles.

Until the technical personnel of the manufacturer arrive at the scene, in order to prevent the vehicle from burning or reburning, the power battery at the bottom of the vehicle is planned to be removed. Under the joint efforts of firefighters and others, the smoking Geely electric vehicle was turned over, and under the guidance of technicians, the power battery at the bottom of the vehicle was removed. Subsequently, firefighters once again used dry powder fire extinguishers to cover it to eliminate hidden dangers.

After the battery is removed, it can be seen that black smoke comes out again, and part of the battery package has been damaged.

According to the driver, Mr. Wu, the car was owned by a car rental company. Before the incident, the car was parked in the charging station for charging and then left. About an hour, after returning to the charging station, Mr. Wu found smoke coming from the bottom of the vehicle, then reported it to the contact company and manufacturer, and called 119 to call the police for help. Mr. Wu also said that the mileage of the car is about 60,000 kilometers at present.

At present, the cause of the above incident is under further investigation. Geely Motors, the brand of the vehicle involved, did not release a description of the situation.

According to the document issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on June 17, after the fire and combustion accident of their new energy vehicles, all car companies should promptly carry out accident investigation, report the basic information of the accident within 12 hours, and report the details of the accident within 48 hours. Take the initiative to report to the lead department and equipment center of the new energy vehicle joint work conference.

According to the seriousness of the accident, the equipment center set up an accident investigation team to carry out investigation work, and reported the accident investigation results to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for handling. For acts of concealment and failure to cooperate with the accident investigation, the equipment center will report to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for punishment in accordance with the relevant provisions. If there is indeed a product defect, the production enterprise shall take the initiative to file a recall with the competent department.

Earlier, Xilai investigated a number of spontaneous combustion and smoke accidents and finally confirmed the recall, including a total of 4803 ES8 vehicles produced between April 2, 2018 and October 19, 2018. After investigation, it is found that because the voltage sampling wire harness in the battery package module is squeezed by the cover plate, the risk of short circuit of low voltage sampling wire harness may occur under some extreme conditions, and there is a safety hidden danger.
