Toyota Motor Corp. has announced that it will supply key components of hydrogen fuel cells to Chinese automakers FAW Group and Suzhou Jinlong. Toyota, which is currently working hard to promote the technology, believes that hydrogen fuel cells will play a bigger role in popularizing electric vehicles. In addition, Toyota signed a partnership with BAIC Foton in early May to also provide hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technology for BAIC Foton commercial vehicles. BAIC Foton's buses, which use Toyota's fuel cell technology, will serve the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in China, while Toyota's move is aimed at expanding its business in the Chinese market.

At present, the promotion of fuel cell vehicles has some limitations, mainly due to the high cost of batteries, lack of infrastructure and so on. Toyota's mass-produced MIRAI, the world's first hydrogen fuel cell car, sells for about 460000 yuan, and Toyota believes that reducing the cost of technology is the key. Toyota and the Japanese government are discussing reducing the price of fuel-cell vehicles to boost sales. The Japanese government has also set a target of selling 200000 fuel cell vehicles by 2025.

Wan Gang, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said earlier: pure electric vehicles are short, so hydrogen fuel cell vehicles should be arranged as soon as possible. The shortcomings of pure electric vehicles are driving mileage and charging time, which can not meet the market demand of long-distance bus, double-shift taxi, urban logistics, long-distance transportation and so on. The focus of industrialization should be expanded to fuel cell vehicles in time. Fuel cell vehicles have the characteristics of clean zero emission, long driving mileage and fast filling time.
