FCA spokesman Eric Mayne told the media on July 8 that the recall involved the 2014 Jeep Freedom Light SUV. Mayne said consumer feedback prompted the FCA to investigate, which found that a component designed to influence gear changes may not be adequately responding to fluid flow. Once that happens, the transmission could accidentally shift into neutral, increasing the risk of an accident, he said.

In addition, about 10,485 vehicles will be recalled in Canada, 287 in Mexico and 6,758 in markets outside North America. The FCA has no reports of any related accidents or injuries. Mayne said affected consumers will be notified when after-sales service is ready and there will be no charge for the recall.
