Porsche sold 133484 vehicles worldwide in the first half of 2019, up 2 per cent from a year earlier, according to Porsche officials. Among them, the Chinese market welcomed a strong rebound in the second quarter after falling 10% in the first quarter compared with the same period last year. By the end of June, Porsche's sales in China had grown by as much as 28%.
The Cayenne, Porsche's biggest contributor, sold 41725 vehicles in the first half of this year, up 45 per cent from the same period last year. In addition, the new Cayenne is now available in all markets around the world, and the new Cayenne Coup é began to be delivered to stores in some markets in May. The Macan, a SUV model, remains Porsche's best-selling model, with 47367 new cars sold in the first half of 2019.
In terms of the single market in the world, the Chinese market is still the largest growth, with a year-on-year growth of 28% in the first half of the year, much higher than other regions. It is also down 16% year-on-year in its home market in Europe. The US market grew slightly by 3 per cent year-on-year.
Porsche said we were satisfied with the growth in the world's two largest markets, China and the US. Especially when the overall car market in these countries is on a downward trend, our market performance is really gratifying.
Mr Detlev von Platen, a member of Porsche's global executive board in charge of sales and marketing, said: "Porsche's global sales declined in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year, but we are now back on track and expect overall year-on-year growth in 2019."
