The French automaker PSA announced its first-half sales. As sales in emerging markets put pressure on its overseas operations, its first-half car sales fell 12.8 per cent to 1.9 million from 2.18 million in the same period last year. Sales of PSA have fallen sharply in almost every region except Europe.

Although PSA has barely achieved 0.27 per cent growth in Europe, its largest market, it has suffered a sharp decline in almost every other region, with sales falling 62.1 per cent in China and 29.3 per cent in Latin America.

The European market remains the world's largest market for PSA, accounting for 88.16% of total global sales. The strong sales of the Citroen brand, especially its SUV series: C5 Aircross and C3 Aircross, increased Europe's market share by 0.3 percentage points, the strongest growth of all PSA brands, setting an eight-year record.

Sales in South America and the Middle East and Africa also fell 29.3 per cent and 68.4 per cent, respectively, as PSA was forced to withdraw from the Iranian market under the threat of US sanctions.

DPCA, PSA's most important joint venture in China, has sold only 63000 vehicles in the past six months. Dongfeng Peugeot and Dongfeng Citroen have lost 60 per cent of their sales in the first half of the year, with an annual sales target of only 26.8 per cent, according to DPCA's first-half sales figures.

This is the fifth year in a row that DPCA has missed its sales target since 2015. DPCA's annual sales have fallen from 711000 in 2015 to 253000 in 2018 to 63000 in the first half of this year. DPCA's sales have fallen off a cliff and have been gradually marginalized from mainstream joint venture brands.

Although they can't sell them, dealers have to accept it. At present, it costs about 8000 yuan to sell a C5.

In order to further boost sales, the PSA Group is currently speeding up the electrification process and plans to launch 14 new electrified models within the next two years. At a later stage, all new models will have pure electric or hybrid versions.
