On July 17, according to Toyota official news, Ningde Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. jointly announced the establishment of a partnership. Through this cooperation, the two sides will combine Ningde era's strength in battery development and supply, as well as Toyota's technical strength in electric vehicles and battery research and development, to develop more attractive electric vehicle products and promote the popularity of electric vehicles. It is also the first time Toyota has broken with tradition by purchasing key components from a Chinese manufacturer.

"in order to further promote the widespread use of electric vehicles, Ningde Times and Toyota agree that a stable battery supply is essential and that battery technology must be further developed and improved," Toyota said in a statement. "

Earlier, Toyota said it would also expand its domestic battery procurement agreements beyond its long-standing partnership with Panasonic, including GS Yuasa and Toshiba. The decisions also highlight Toyota's expected huge demand for batteries.

Toyota plans to more than triple its annual sales of electric vehicles from 2018 to at least 5.5 million by 2030, accounting for half of its total sales. Of these, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models will account for 4.5 million of them, and fuel cell and pure electric models will account for more than 1 million.

And some media said that according to Toyota on June 7, the company's goal of increasing global sales of new energy vehicles to more than 5.5 million vehicles by 2030 is expected to be achieved about five years ahead of schedule, that is, 2025.

As the leader of power batteries, Ningde era had a 16% global share of the battery market as of 2017, slightly higher than Panasonic's 15% market share. Ningde era has also launched cooperation with Honda, Volvo and other car companies one after another. In addition, Ningde era also signed supporting supply agreements with Volkswagen, BMW and Daimler, and batteries are likely to be used in Ford mass-produced electric vehicles in the future. Under the signing of a number of supply agreements, Ningde era increased early investment. It has agreed to expand its investment in European production and R & D base projects.

According to Toyota's 2018 data, Toyota sold 9.5 million vehicles worldwide, of which about 17% were electric, and the vast majority were gas-electric hybrids, of which only 46000 were plug-in hybrids.
