AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/18 Report--

According to Bloomberg, Lutes will expand under the leadership of its parent company Geely, and there is a good chance that it will open a second plant in the UK and produce more SUV models aimed at new markets. Lutes CEO Popham said the company would triple production at its base in Ethel, eastern England, to slightly more than 5000 vehicles a year, or 10000 vehicles a year in a two-shift model. At the same time, Popham also said that he may be established in other parts of the UK and is not worried about the impact of Brexit.

Lutes, a 70-year-old startup, recently unveiled its first all-electric supercar, the Evija.

The all-electric supercar, which costs about 1.7 million pounds, has a range of 402km, accelerates for 3s at 100km and has a top speed of 320km / h. The new car will be delivered in 2020, with a global limit of 130. this is one of the high-end cars it has ever launched.

Before launching the Evija, Lutes will also launch a model with a fuel generator, after which all subsequent models will be powered by an electric version and will most likely skip hybrids.

Evija is the first heavyweight product in the revival of the brand after Geely Holdings acquired Lutes. Geely wants to restore the height of the brand through this pure electric supercar. Last June, Geely acquired a 50 per cent stake in Lutes and a 49 per cent stake in its parent company, Proton Motors. After Geely joined Lutes, it made a transformation plan to expand its automotive product line to the field of new energy sports cars.

According to sources, Geely plans to invest at least $1.9 billion to revive Lutes, including the construction of factories and research and development centres in the UK and the localization of Lutes over the next decade. In the next 10 years, Lutes' development direction is not only to provide products for minority consumers, but also to provide products to mass consumers.

In 2017, Lutes sold 1600 vehicles for the whole year, an increase of 10% over 2016, and it was the first time in the history of Lutes Group that it made a profit. Lutes produced 1632 cars in 2018 and is expected to exceed 1700 this year.

Feng Qingfeng, Geely Group vice president, chief technology officer and global president of Lutes, said that while Lutes' core sports car products would continue to be produced in the UK, higher-selling models could be made in China.

Mr Popham said Lutes had room to work with other Geely companies, including its Volvo and Proton cars. There is no problem with re-tagging other platforms with the brand name Lutes.

In fact, Lutes' advantage lies in making sports cars, while Geely and Volvo are stronger in traditional automobile technology, but they are integrated on the premise that they do not affect each other's independence.

While the Evija supercar can compete with the Pininfarina Battista luxury electric sports car, the Rimac Concept One electric supercar and top traditional fuel cars such as Ferrari and Lamborghini, Popham said Lutes' future car prices will remain within the current range of £50 to £150000, although there is still some room for improvement in premium car prices.

Popham said that Lutes is not too worried about Brexit, although Brexit is very likely to succeed, but the company has a large stock of parts in case a Brexit agreement cannot be reached.
