Brilliance BMW recently announced that its Shenyang production base will achieve the first technological upgrade of the 5G network, and the transmission rate of mobile network terminals will be increased to 1Gbps, officially becoming the world's first 5G automobile production base.

As early as October 2018, brilliance BMW has fully installed a 5G network at the Tiexi plant, Dadong plant and powertrain plant in Shenyang, with a total of 21 towers and 35 5G base stations. In April this year, as the first 5G demonstration unit in Shenyang, brilliance BMW has achieved comprehensive 5G signal coverage in three major factories, covering an area of more than 3 million square meters. and under this condition, it is the first to start the application demonstration project of testing vehicle data 5G transmission.

Brilliance BMW Shenyang production base uses China Unicom and China Mobile dual operator 5G network. By enabling mobile edge computing technology, the secure and flexible handover between 5G factory private network and public network is realized. After only 3 months of technical iteration, the transmission speed of the 5G network in the current production base has developed rapidly from 600Mbps at the beginning of its construction to 1Gbps.

It is expected that in the future, brilliance's plant plans to explore and practice 5G technology applications, including augmented reality, sub-meter positioning, efficient AGV control in the cloud, human-computer interaction of wearable devices, communication between robots and robots, and communication between "fixtures" on robot arms and controllers. These applications will make full use of the characteristics of 5G, such as ultra-high bandwidth, ultra-high density, high reliability and ultra-low delay, which will have a significant impact on automobile production.
