AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/24 Report--

According to foreign media reports, San Francisco police said that a woman drove a rented Tesla car through a red light in San Francisco, killing a tourist on the spot and seriously injuring his wife. The woman was subsequently arrested by police. Local police said in a statement that they were investigating whether Tesla, leased by car rental service Getaround, was in autopilot mode and used Autopilot.

Police said the 22-year-old suspect was charged with vehicular manslaughter and red light running, but it was unclear whether Tesla was on autopilot at the time. The woman was driving at least 45 mph (70 kph) in a 25 to 30 mph (40 to 50 kph) zone when she ran a red light and was hit sideways by another car.

He then hit a couple in a crosswalk, killing Benjamin Dean, 39. His wife Kelly Dean is in critical condition.

Tesla has had several fatal accidents in autonomous driving mode.

In March last year, a 38-year-old man drove a Tesla electric car on Highway 101 in Mountain View, California. After starting the semi-autonomous driving function of the electric car, he lost control and crashed into the separation island separating the highway 85 ride-sharing viaduct. The car caught fire and then a Mazda car and an Audi sedan crashed into Tesla from behind. Finally, the man died in hospital.

And in May, the Tesla Model 3 that caused the accident was traveling south, and the truck came off the west side of the highway and tried to cross the highway into the northbound lane, but the Model 3 didn't respond to the truck, hitting the truck at 110 km/h and killing the driver. The driver activated the autopilot system about 10 seconds before hitting a semitrailer.

In addition, in May 2016, a Model S crashed into an opposite turning truck while on autopilot, killing the driver. Tesla's Autopilot reportedly didn't recognize the opposite truck because the truck body reflected light.

On January 20,2016, a rear-end collision occurred in Handan section of Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway in Hebei Province. A Tesla car directly hit a road sweeper in operation. Tesla car was damaged on the spot and the driver died unfortunately. A year after the accident, Tesla admitted that the vehicle was on autopilot at the time of the accident. This accident is also considered to be the world's first "autonomous" fatal car accident.

After the accident, Tesla changed the Chinese translation of the system from "automatic driving" to "automatic assisted driving" and asked salespeople to strictly describe the system as a driving assistance system. Tesla has also updated the system to try to keep users focused while using it.

As far as Tesla's current autonomous driving technology is concerned, this technology is only a transition period of comprehensive autonomous driving technology, far from reaching full autonomous driving, and there is still a big gap with people's imagination of autonomous driving.
