WEY, a high-end independent brand owned by Great Wall, is trying to find a way to survive in the cold winter of the car market.

On July 25th, Great Wall Automobile WEY released the full-dimensional intelligent security system for Collie shepherds and the first 2020 WEY VV6 model equipped with this safety system in Baoding. The model will carry out in-vehicle monitoring and protection from four dimensions: life, property, information and environment, including in-vehicle life monitoring and condition detection technology. This is the landing of the intelligent networking strategy of the upgraded version of Great Wall Automobile in the WEY brand system and product level.

In July this year, Great Wall officially announced that it would upgrade its intelligent Internet connection strategy, partnering with Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Huawei and Qualcomm. At the Harvard SUV event in 2017, Great Wall unveiled its "i-Pilot Intelligent Navigation" autopilot system for road test in North America.

In addition to the layout of intelligent Internet connection, "going out to sea" is often the inevitable choice for WEY brands to face weak domestic market demand. According to public data, Great Wall car sales rose 4.7 per cent year-on-year to 493500 vehicles in the first half of 2019, with sales of all three models of the Great Wall WEY brand, with the exception of the VV6, not optimistic. In June, sales of VV5, VV7 and P8 were 1002, 1015 and 47, respectively.

Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall and founder of the WEY brand, said that globalization is the only way out for Chinese automobile companies. If an independent brand car relies on the in-cabinet market, does not go abroad and has no influence in the international arena, the development of more than 20 years will be wasted. Wang Fengying, president of Great Wall, announced at the press conference that Great Wall's WEY, Harvard, Euler and pickup brands will "go out to sea".

Therefore, to promote overseas R & D and sales in the future, Great Wall has set up overseas R & D centers in Japan, the United States, India, Austria, South Korea and other places. Its Harvard brand entered Russia in 2015, and in June this year, Great Wall's first overseas belly factory, Great Wall Russia Tula Factory, was officially completed and put into production. According to the Great Wall plan, the WEY brand will enter the German and North American markets for the first time in 2021.
