AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/29 Report--

According to overseas media reports, a modern all-electric car Kona exploded in a garage in a community in Montreal, Canada on Friday, causing the garage to catch fire and the garage door was blown to pieces and splashed everywhere.

According to the owner, who bought the car in March this year, he saw smoke billowing from the garage on Friday afternoon and ran out of the door and immediately turned off the circuit breaker while waiting for firefighters to try to put out the fire through a water pipe in the garden. It was not until then that the owner found that the damage caused by the explosion was much greater than he had imagined. The garage door had exploded across the street and a hole had been blown out of the roof. And the electric car was not charged in the garage at the time.

Around 1 p.m., about 30 men managed to put out the fire. A department head of the Montreal Fire Department said they found no other possible cause of the fire except Hyundai Kona.

The explosion was actually the first Kona pure electric car accident seen so far, and the car not only ignited spontaneously, but also "exploded".

Electric cars are powered by lithium batteries, and some cars overheat and explode at extreme temperatures. In fact, there have been a number of spontaneous combustion incidents of electric vehicles around the world.

Prior to this, three incidents of spontaneous combustion occurred in Tesla within a month. On May 12, after a Tesla Model S 85D was parked at Hong Kong's San Po Kong Plaza for about half an hour, the battery suddenly began to smoke and catch fire. At the same time, there was an explosion at the scene. On April 21, a Tesla Model S burst into flames in an underground garage in Shanghai, and some nearby vehicles were also destroyed. On May 3, a Tesla Model S suddenly burst into flames in a private garage in San Francisco, USA.

There have also been a number of spontaneous combustion accidents in China's new car-building power, Lulai Motor. On May 16, a Fulai ES8 near Anli Road, Jiading District, Shanghai, showed signs of smoking. On June 14, a Lulai ES8 burst into flames in Wuhan, the third case of a fire in two months. Frequent recalls of electric cars have caused concern among consumers, resulting in a recall of 4803 ES8 vehicles.

Lithium batteries provide us with efficient battery kinetic energy, but they are very flammable, which is one of the reasons why lithium battery fires are difficult to put out. Although this is the first natural explosion of modern Kona, we have seen more and more about the nature of electric vehicles, and frequent nature has reduced consumers' desire for electric vehicles. It will take time to verify whether the comprehensive development of electric vehicles is reliable or not.
