AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/31 Report--
More than halfway through 2019, the sharp drop in sales figures show that the global car market has not been easy this year. Data from the German Federation of Automotive Industries show that sales declined in all major car markets around the world in the first half of 2019 (January-June), with the exception of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
From January to June 2019, sales in major global car markets (Europe, Russia, the United States, Japan, Brazil, India and China) totaled 32695100 vehicles. In terms of overall sales, Brazil's national sales grew by 11% in the past January to June, ahead of all major car markets, and is currently the only market in the world that has achieved sales growth.
Data from the European market showed that car sales fell 7.8 per cent to 1.446 million in June, the biggest monthly decline since December, with new car registrations in Europe falling 3.1 per cent to 8.2 million from January to June. However, because the consumer index is still high, Germany is the only country in Europe's five largest car markets where new registrations are showing a trend of growth (+ 1%).
By contrast, new car sales fell in France (- 2 per cent), the UK (- 3 per cent), Italy (- 4 per cent) and Spain (- 6 per cent) in western Europe. The European market, in particular, fell 7.9 per cent overall in June, blamed on fewer working days in the month. New car sales in Russia, including light commercial vehicles, fell 3.3 per cent in June from a year earlier to 151000, and cumulative sales from January to June fell 2.4 per cent to 829000.
The US light vehicle market (including passenger cars and light trucks), the world's most mature car market, fell 1.9 per cent from January to June compared with the same period in 2018, with sales of 8412900 vehicles. While sales of light trucks, mainly in the SUV and pickup markets, rose 1 per cent, passenger cars fell 9 per cent. In June 2019, the number of new cars registered in the US was 1514900, down 1.9 per cent from a year earlier.
As a result of trade risks, the rise in car prices continues to deter consumers, and US car sales will fall slightly from a year earlier, which will be the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year decline.
In the middle of 2019, from January to June, the number of passenger cars registered in Japan was the same as that in the same period in 2018, and the market remained stable. Data show that from January to June, the Japanese auto market fell slightly by 0.3%, with overall sales of 2285700 vehicles. But for months, the Japanese car market fell 2.2 per cent year-on-year in June 2019, compared with 367000 units in June.
By contrast, the Brazilian car market grew both in June 2019 and from January to June. Due to strong demand in the car market, national sales in Brazil increased by 9.5% to 214000 vehicles in June 2019. From January to June, car sales across Brazil rose 10.9% to 1251800 units. Brazil is the only big growing market in the world, whether in June 2019 or from January to June.
As an emerging market, India was highly expected by many car companies, but five years later it may also have negative growth again.
Sales in June 2019 were 225700, down 17.5 per cent from a year earlier. In the first half of 2019, the Indian car market sold only 1556800 vehicles, only a 2 million-class market, but sales still fell by 10.3% compared with the same period, and the new car market directly shrank by 10%, which affected the business plans of many manufacturers.
The reason for the continued sharp decline in June, in addition to the fact that manufacturers are still continuing to reduce dealer inventories, is mainly due to the downturn in the Indian car market and so far shows no sign of recovery.
Although China's auto market has also declined sharply, but because the overall market (January-June) is 10 million, so from a macro point of view, it still has great potential, and is still the largest market in the world.
Affected by the domestic economy and uncertain import tariffs in the United States, China's auto market sold 9932900 new cars from January to June 2019, down 14 percent from a year earlier. In June 2019, new car sales nationwide totaled 1700000, down 7.1 per cent from a year earlier.
