Volkswagen sent a brief message to employees on Tuesday that the company will pay about 100000 employees 4750 euros ($5400, 3.6 billion yuan) in collective wage agreement bonuses for 2018, the largest amount since 2015.

Bernd Osterloh, chairman of the company's working committee, said that as part of all factory restructuring, production plans have been changed and shifts have been reassigned. The amount of the bonus should not be interpreted as an indicator of the operating profits of Volkswagen passenger car brands, as commercial vehicles are also included in the plan and the number of part-time contractors must also be taken into account, the newsletter said.

Volkswagen Group sold 10.83 million vehicles worldwide in 2018, up 2.2% from the same period last year. In the Chinese market, Volkswagen Group's cumulative sales reached 4207100 vehicles, accounting for 38.9% of Volkswagen Group's total global sales in 2018, and remains its largest single market.

Volkswagen Group released global sales figures for January, when global sales were about 882000 vehicles, down 1.8 per cent from a year earlier. Sales in china, the world's largest single market, fell 2.9 per cent from a year earlier to 387300 vehicles.

In revenue, Volkswagen's operating profit rose 0.7% to 13.92 billion euros in 2018, and Volkswagen plans to pay a dividend of 4.80 euros per common share, 0.90 euros higher than in 2017.
