According to the recall announcement issued by the State Municipal Administration in July, a total of 16 vehicle recall announcements were issued in the domestic passenger car market in July 2019, involving 12 car brands, a total of 374834 vehicles were recalled, down 69.04% from the same period last year and an increase of 695.98%. Among them, Toyota Crown recalled a total of 130375 vehicles to become the brand with the largest number of recalls in July.

According to the breakdown of cars, in July this year, Japanese brands Toyota, Honda and Acura recalled a total of 225150 vehicles, accounting for 60.07% of the total recall; secondly, German brands Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche recalled a total of 72453 vehicles, accounting for 19.33% of the total recall; the following American brand Ford recalled a total of 44333 vehicles, accounting for 11.83%; and independent brand Baojun recalled 32658 vehicles, accounting for 8.71%. In addition, the brands Ferrari and Maserati recalled a total of 340 vehicles, accounting for 0.06%.

In terms of car segments, Toyota Crown topped the passenger car recall in July.

On July 11, Toyota announced that it would recall as many as 130375 vehicles because some vehicles did not comply with the main points in the manufacturing process, and there was the possibility of improper installation of rear bumper reinforcements, which could lead to missing rear bumper reinforcements.

As Toyota's flagship model, it did not follow the main points in the production process, which not only led to a large number of vehicle recalls, but also reflected its negative performance in the market. According to relevant statistics, in the first half of this year, the cumulative sales of Crown was only 8333, unlike even the monthly sales of Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6L and other models in the top market.

In addition, the Japanese brand Honda once again fell into the recall storm because of the "Takata airbag". In July, Honda's domestic and imported models, as well as concept and Acura brands, were recalled because of problems with "Takata airbags", accounting for 25.28%, or 94775 vehicles.

Takata is almost a monopoly, which makes it spread so widely, so the recall of Takata airbags will continue in the future.

Porsche, on the other hand, is the brand that has launched a massive recall for two months in a row, with a recall of 42070 Panamera in June and another 57200 in July, including Cayenne and Panamera. It is worth noting that Porsche has issued seven recall announcements from January to July, recalling a total of 171537 vehicles, of which Cayenne and Panamera recalled a total of 155372 vehicles from January to July, accounting for 90.58% of the total recall.

The reasons for the recall range from hidden dangers such as gearbox, steering system and airbags to failures such as instrument software and air-conditioning systems, and even risks in vehicle design and production.

Porsche is joined by its own brand Baojun, which announced a recall of 32658 DCT and 730DCT cars in July, while in May, Baojun issued a recall of 19680 DCT cars, and three models with DCT gearboxes were recalled.

Now the Baojun 730s and 530s have been replaced with CVT gearboxes. Although the official website shows that the 560DCT model is still on sale, according to the investigation, the model has been discontinued. The suspension of production of DCT gearboxes has undoubtedly caused huge losses to Baojun's brand reputation and economy.

In addition to the freezing point in sales of its main models, frequent quality problems have also increased resistance to the brand, with monthly sales of its first diamond-marked RS-5 model barely exceeding 2000. From this point of view, Baojun, which relies on performance-to-price ratio to seize the market, has gradually revealed the disadvantages of low quality and low price due to the frequent occurrence of quality problems.
