AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/04 Report--

Free overcharging has always been a global selling point of Tesla, which has always been a selling point of Tesla. Recently, Tesla once again announced that all new ModelS/X can use the network of supercharging stations for free.

In the early days, car owners' welfare plans to buy Tesla cars included free unlimited charging services. However, with the delivery of more and more vehicles, this free measure has brought some disharmony, and some bad car owners do not drive away their vehicles after the Tesla charging station has been recharged, wasting public resources.

So starting from January 1, 2017, consumers who buy Tesla cars after Tesla announced that they will only get 400 kilowatt-hours (equivalent to 1600 kilometers of driving mileage) free recharging time per year. Once Tesla owners exceed this amount, they will charge a small charging fee.

It is understood that recently, in order to stimulate the sales of two luxury electric cars (Model X and Model S), Tesla needs to resume the free charging service for the new purchase orders of the two luxury cars.

As a result, Tesla announced on Saturday local time that all new Model S sedans and Model X SUVs would have unlimited access to their network of supercharging stations free of charge.

According to the company, it lost $408 million in the second quarter of this year, more than expected. Tesla announced in July that it delivered a record 95200 electric vehicles in the second quarter, a sharp reversal from its disappointing performance in the first quarter. The company had sales of $6.3 billion in the second quarter, most of which came from Model 3 models with lower profit margins and lower prices.

Sales of Model S and Model X have slowed. Of the 95200 deliveries, only 17650 belonged to two luxury cars (accounting for about 20% of total sales). In addition, Tesla did not further decompose the sales data into the two models.

Earlier, Elon Musk, the company's chief executive, said the benefit of permanent free charging was "not sustainable and did not inspire the best behavior, and we may end the program this morning." But for some time last year, Tesla has used the benefit as a promotion to sell inventory cars and even Model 3.

In fact, there is still a lifetime free supercharging plan related to Tesla's car owner recommendation program, but Tesla has now ended this benefit. In the new recommendation plan, Tesla no longer rewards car owners based on the cumulative number of recommendations, but offers free recharging services for 1000 miles to referrals (old owners) and recommended new buyers.

Musk has temporarily restored the benefits of free charging several times to boost sales. It is not clear how long this latest proposal will last. The company has been adjusting its pricing structure, vehicle configuration and incentive scheme on a monthly basis.

At present, however, sales of the Model 3 have affected the sales of two luxury cars, and the share of the two luxury cars in Tesla's sales will continue to shrink with the construction of an electric car factory in Shanghai, China, and the planned production of the popular Model 3 model by the end of this year.
