AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/08 Report--

Earlier, Volkswagen announced the cancellation of two derivative travel models in the golf family. Recently, Volkswagen announced that it will stop the sale of golf R in the US market by the end of the year. It is still unknown whether other markets will follow, but it is possible to stop the sale of golf R altogether. Only golf models such as Value Editio, GTI and E-Golf will be available in the middle of the 2020 model year.

But the cancellation of Golf R is only because the current seventh generation Golf R is nearing the end of its product cycle. At present, Volkswagen is preparing for the mass production and launch of the redesigned eighth-generation Golf Mk8, so it will reduce the number of other modified models of the 2020 Golf model.

The first models of the new eighth-generation golf were launched at Volkswagen's Wolfsburg plant in June and officially went on sale this fall. With the arrival of the eighth generation of golf, Golf GTI and Golf R will continue to enter the market for sale.

But there is also a view that the Seventh Generation Golf R may be the best of this model. Because Volkswagen is trying to reduce the traditional fuel version of the model, and the main force is electric money. Through a series of recent actions of Volkswagen, we can see that this is a trend, which, from the public's point of view, is the best way to save costs.

Just take the cash golf as an example, in order to meet different needs, Volkswagen provides a variety of powertrain combinations and different body, and if the use of pure electric powertrain, the number of versions can be greatly reduced, development and testing costs will be reduced accordingly.

Golf GTI and golf R accounted for 48% of the golf family's annual sales in 2018, excluding ordinary golf models.

At present, Volkswagen's focus is on Volkswagen's eighth-generation golf Mk8. Volkswagen had planned to debut the eighth generation of golf at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, but had to postpone the launch date to later in 2019 because of software problems. Software development problems are the reason for the delay.

In June, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Deiss said at an internal meeting that the company's management must ensure that the latest generation of golf is launched by the end of the year.
