Recently, Mazda announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2019. According to the data in the financial report, Mazda's operating income in the second quarter was 848.9 billion yen (about 54.55 billion yuan), down 2.7% from the same period last year. Operating profit was 6.952 billion yen (460 million yuan), down 68.8% from a year earlier, or nearly 70%, making it Mazda's worst quarter in seven years since June 2012.

Mazda's decline in revenue and profit in the second quarter was mainly due to a decline in sales in North America and China. According to financial data, global sales of Mazda in the second quarter of this year totaled 354300 vehicles, down 12% from the same period last year. As Mazda's largest market, Mazda sold only 100000 vehicles in North America in the second quarter of this year, down 13.9% from the same period last year. Among them, sales in the United States were 68000, down 15.3% from the same period last year.

Looking at Mazda's performance in the Chinese market, Mazda sold a total of 54000 new cars in China in the second quarter of this year, down 21.2% from the same period last year, surpassing North America and the United States to become the region with the largest decline in global sales. Its sales in the domestic market in the first half of the year were 106300, down as much as 27% from the same period last year. Its July production and sales figures show that Mazda sold 17051 new cars a month in July, down 17% from a year earlier. At the beginning of this year, Mazda set an annual sales target of 270000 vehicles, and now half a year later, this goal is only 45%. It will be difficult for Mazda to achieve the target it set at the beginning of the year in the second half of the year.

As for the sharp decline in product sales, Mazda said: the downturn in the Chinese market is the main reason for the decline in sales. However, relevant professionals pointed out that the downturn in Mazda sales cannot be completely attributed to the downturn in the Chinese market environment, although the domestic automobile market is generally affected by a variety of factors in recent years. However, the sales volume of "Yamamoto Liangda", which is a Japanese brand with Mazda, has increased to varying degrees, which shows that the product itself is the main reason for Mazda's low sales in the domestic market. Industry insiders say that Mazda's single product line, insufficient product range and lagging iteration of product updates are the main reasons for its poor sales performance at home and abroad.

Despite the unsatisfactory results in the second quarter, Mazda remained more optimistic. Mazda said that 2019 is the adjustment period for Mazda, and its company will launch a replacement model of Mazda 3 this year, while Atez will also usher in its medium-term revamped model, as well as a new SUV model, CX-30;, which will be launched through a series of new cars. Mazda said that by the end of the fiscal year in March 2020, Mazda's operating profit is expected to increase by 33% to 110 billion yen.
